Allan LeRoy Werre was born April 13, 1941 in Estacada, Oregon son of Calvin Werre and Pauline (Sprecker) Werre. Allan grew up on the family farm southwest of Bowman. He attended the Hart Township School graduating from Bowman High School. He continued his education at Dickinson State College and NDSU studying engineering. Allan returned home to the family ranch to work alongside his father farming and ranching.
On September 29, 1964, he married Hilda Ann Hagemeister in South Dakota. Allan and Ann had one daughter, Michele. Allan also continued to ranch and farm near Bowman. He and Ann were active in the Prairie Winds 4-H Club serving as leaders for 6 years. Allan served on the Hart Township Board of Supervisors and Board of Trustees St. Luke's Tri-state Hospital. In 1982 Allan moved his family to Terry, MT for a few years to continue ranching. While in Terry he started a custom trucking business hauling cattle, hay, grain, beets. Later he leased out to Quality Transportation and hauled grain, lumber, steel and chemicals throughout the US, once making a stop near Memphis so he could tour Graceland. He was vice-chairman of the Prairie County Range Resources as well as president of the Terry Roping Club. In 1987 Allan and Ann moved to Cassoday, KS where Allan managed 6,000 to 8,000 head of yearling steers each summer, building fences and became very involved with Holistic Resource Management. He loved combining his care for animals and his passion for the land. He was very active in the Cassoday community by promoting and volunteering in the Prairie Queen Festival and Cassoday Rodeo Association.
In 2003 Allan and Ann moved to Plevna, MT to be near their daughter and family. Allan drove fuel/propane truck for Prairie Fuels and then retired in 2006. During retirement he kept busy as Federal Crop adjuster. Allan always loved following his daughter in her rodeo and was very proud of the grandkids in their sports. He was equally proud of his great grandchildren.
Allan is loved dearly and will be missed by his daughter, Michele Gray; grandchildren, Allan J. Gray (Justine Nieto), Kelly (James) Rieger, Katie (Michael) Bost; great grandchildren, Wyatt and Huntley Bost, Owen and Macie Rieger; sister, Delores (Gerald) Kempenich; extended family, LeRoy Werre, Diane (Tom) Engesser, Della (Ken) Peacock, David Werre and numerous nieces, nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Ann Werre, parents Calvin and Pauline Werre; son-in-law, Roscoe Gray; great grandson, Grayson Rieger; sister, Leinniece Kempenich.
