August "Augie" Schaaf

A funeral service for August "Augie" Schaaf Jr., 90, of Glen Ullin, will be held at 10:00 am CT Friday, April 12, 2024, at the United Lutheran Church of Almont with Pastor Bill Dodd officiating. Burial will follow at Sims Cemetery.
 
Visitation for Augie will be from 5:00 - 7:00 pm CT Thursday, April 11, 2024, at the church.
 
Augie passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Sanford Hospital in Bismarck.

August Joseph Schaaf Jr. was born April 14, 1933, to August Sr. and Catherine (Braun) Schaaf. He grew up on a farm in rural Glen Ullin and graduated from Glen Ullin High School in 1951. Augie farmed and ranched alongside his dad and brother Orvil. He married Leona Monson on May 27, 1958, at Sims Church. The couple was blessed with four children: Cassie, Gail, Dionn and Lowell. 

Augie loved to tinker around and build things. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix with a little twine and bailing wire.  He enjoyed hunting, gardening, horses and rodeo. In his younger years, he was a member of trail club and helped build the weigh stations in Glen Ullin and Almont. After Augie retired from farming and ranching, he became a beekeeper. He will be remembered for his hard work and the love he had for his family.

Augie is survived by his wife, Leona, of Glen Ullin; children: Cassie (Paul) Schlenvogt of Arbuckle, CA, Gail (Russ) Schmidt of Glen Ullin, Dionn Schaaf of Carrington, Lowell (Sarah) of Bismarck; brother, Orvil (Paulette) Schaaf; grandchildren: Amber Shelton, Aaron, Spencer and Evan Schlenvogt and Austin, Logan and Tyler Schaaf; great-grandchildren, Brent, Brittany and McKinnley Schlenvogt; sister-in-law, Leah Schaaf.

He is preceded in death by his parents: August Sr. and Catherine Schaaf and siblings: Donald Schaaf, Laura Gartner and Lillian Gribbons.
