Betty Lorain Kusler

Funeral Service for Betty Kusler, 94, of Baker will take place 10:00 am Friday, July 24, 2026 at First Baptist Church in Plevna with Pastor Jason Castleberry officiating. Burial will follow the luncheon at Bonnievale Cemetery in Baker.

Prayer Service will be at 7:00 pm Thursday, July 23, 2026 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker.

Visitation will be 6:00-7:00 pm Thursday, July 23, 2026 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker.

Betty Kusler entered into the arms of her personal Lord and Savior on July 19, 2026 at Fallon Medical Complex.

Betty Lorain (Schueler) Kusler was born December 5th, 1931, to John and Emma (Losing) Schueler in the Elizabeth Hospital in Baker, Montana.

Betty attended all her school years in Baker, graduating in 1949.

She married Leroy Kusler, in Baker, on September 11th, 1949, and became Life partners for 59 1/2 years! To this union five children were born: Kathy, Darrell, Connie, Carleen and Doug.

Betty started babysitting when she was in the 8th grade, she worked at the Red Owl grocery store and the Economy grocery store, cooked at the Baker Hospital for 12 years and worked for Triers Studio for 2 years and while her daughter, Connie, operated her sewing shop, Creative Stitches, she worked doing the alterations that came into the shop and she was the bookkeeper for Kusler Electric for many years.

Betty took a big interest in Family Tree's which led her to working with her cousin, Gloria (Kusler) Follmer and they created a book with the entire Kusler family tree. She also helped others in their search for family members, which led her to document all the births, marriages and deaths that had ever been published in the Fallon County Times, entering well over 72 thousand names into the Fallon County library's computer system.

She was a 4-H leader for 14 years, a member, and President several times, of the Adventure's Homemakers Club since 1958. Member of the Baker Senior Citizens for 8 years, member of RSVP for 8 years where she would go the library and listen to young students read and help them with their reading and spelling, she was Committee member of her 50th class reunion in 1999 and of the All Class Reunion in 2000 and a Fallon County election judge for many years. In 2000 she was named Senior Citizen of the Year for Fallon County. Betty was the keeper of history, collecting obituaries, honoring every deceased in Fallon County.

Betty has been an active member of the Plevna Baptist Church for many years, serving as both the President and Vice President of the Plevna Mission Circle where one of their duties included make bandages, diapers and blankets to send to the missionaries in Africa. She sang in the choir for many years and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.

She was very adventurous and would seldom back down from trying new things!

Sadly, we know of at least two things mom wanted to do in her lifetime, but the time of a willing and able body just ran out. 1. Ride in a hot air balloon. 2. Hang gliding.

Betty is survived by her children: Kathy (Walt) Stieg of Billings/Custer, MT, Darrell of Summerville, SC, Connie (Gary) Lang of Plevna, MT, Carleen (Eddy) Susa of Baker, MT and Doug (Lisa) Kusler of Everett, WA.

12 Grandchildren: Ryan (Jill) Stieg, Aaron (Sarah) Stieg, Tyler (Kristen) Stieg, Jeff (Stanell) Kusler, Steve (Anna) Kusler, Joni (Karsten) Finseth, Josh (Lisa) Lang, Nichole (Jake) Hould, Neal (Victoria) Susa, Heather (Ryan) Borman, Darin (Danielle) Kusler, and Holly Kusler.

And so far, 33 Great Grandchildren!!

Other than one Sister-in-Law, Sarah Schueler, Betty has outlived her generation of close family relatives and is preceded in death by: her Parents, Husband LeRoy in 2009, brothers, sister and their spouses Herbert and Helen Schueler and Richard Schueler, Violet and Bob Baird, Edmund Freier, Lynn Holm and Idella Holm, Glenn and Bonnie Kusler, Arleen and Verle Graham, one Grandson, Kurt Kusler and one Great Granddaughter, Elyse Finseth.

As kids we would often hear Mom talk about praying that God would spare her from having to bury one of her own children, He has been faithful in sparing her that heartache.

Along with her strong faith in Jesus Christ, Mom passed down, many sayings and thoughts to us kids, some that she heard from her own Mom:

1. How important it is to have the younger generations smile and speak to us, as we get older.
2. It is important to enjoy reading
3. You are NEVER too old to learn
4. A smile doesn't cost you anything (and Mom always had a beautiful smile!)

Today we say, "see you soon" Mom! You have helped in teaching all of us kids to love the Lord and to have the assurance that we will all meet again someday!

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of The Villa for the compassionate care, kindness, and friendship they shared with Betty throughout her years there. They also express their sincere appreciation to the doctors, nurses, CNAs, and kitchen staff at Fallon Medical Hospital for the exceptional care and compassion they provided. Your kindness and dedication brought comfort to Betty and meant so much to her family.
