Catherine Bahley, 98, passed away July 9, 2026 at Richardton, ND.

Catherine (Katy) was born on September 10, 1927, in Dickinson, ND, to Emmanuel and Elizabeth Wanner. She was the youngest of 14 children. She grew up on the family farm near Hirschville, ND where she attended Wild Rose country school. Before school she spoke German learning from her parents and oldest brother who immigrated from Russia.

Katy worked at the Woolworth's restaurant before marrying Edward Bahley on January 21, 1947. They farmed in Manning and raised six children. Katy worked hard all of her life. On the farm she milked cows, raised chickens, helped butcher and make country style sausage and cook numerous meals for Ed and all who farmed the land.

Every year she raised a large vegetable garden on the farm and in Dickinson. Katy and Edward lived on the farm until November 1975 when they retired to their new home in Dickinson. After selling the home in the 90's, she lived at Villard Terrace until moving into Evergreen Assisted Living in 2018 and then a few years later to Richardton Health Center.

Katy was a devoted Christian. She never missed Saturday or Sunday mass. Throughout her life she loved to crochet, sew her children's clothing, listen to old time music Sunday mornings on the radio, play cards, can pickles, beets and other vegetables. She also made chokecherry and other fruit jelly, many baked goods like honey cookies, cakes, pumpkin, apple, strawberry rhubarb and chocolate pies, and cooked pigs in the blanket (meatballs) and soups like Borscht and Chicken Dumpling for the family holiday and birthday gatherings. Nobody left hungry or with a shortage of food leftovers.

Her beautiful pink peonies she grew and nurtured in front of the family home was admirable. Katy was a breast cancer survivor from the mid 1980's which didn't slow her down or define her. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to her friends, family and neighbors. She did daycare for her grandsons, some neighbors and her daughter's Kiddy Kare.

Katy treasured her time and visits with family, friends and loved ones. She loved all of them near and far and she will be forever loved and dearly missed.

A special Thank You to Richardton Health Center, staff and the friends she made there that cared for and comforted her throughout this tough disease and her time there. Some of you made a special connection with our mom, grandma and loved one. The many singalongs, prayers, activities and holidays you shared with her; you went above and beyond and we are so very grateful!

Catherine is survived by her children, Sharon (Ron) Renner of Dickinson, Daryl of MT, Glenn (Val) of SD, Jim of Dickinson and Kathy (Dusty) Padilla of CO; seven grandchildren, Michael (Bethany) Staiger, Rob Staiger, LaRae (Paul) Genualdo, Tracy Jordan, Mandy (Rod) Burman, Jared (Krista), Troy (Pingna), Brad (Ashley); and great grandchildren, Niko, Olivia, Cody, Jesse, Ava, Anthony, Ethan; step grandchildren, Kendra, Camron, Ivey, Andrew, Adrianna, Hailey, Ryan, BreAnna, Sheldon and Keaton. Also many special nieces and nephews.
