A funeral Mass for Christ “Credo” Kessel, 83, of Dickinson will be 9:00 a. m. , Saturday, June 6, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Father Keith Streifel celebrating. Burial will take place at 12:00 p. m. CDT, Monday, June 8, 2015 at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan. Visitation for Christ will be from 12:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. , Friday, June 5 at Stevenson Funeral Home with a rosary and vigil service being held at 6:00 p. m. Christ passed away Monday, June 01, 2015 at CHI St. Joseph’s Health in Dickinson. Christ J. Kessel was born October 29, 1931 in Dickinson, the son of Joseph and Otillia (Herauf) Kessel. He grew up and attended school in Dickinson. In 1952, Credo enlisted in the United States Army and served three years in Korea with the 24th Infantry Division. While spending time in Japan, he met Terry Yamamoto and the two were married on December 16, 1954. The couple made their home in Japan for a year before returning to Dickinson where they have made their home since. Credo worked at Cloverdale, later Cass Clay, as a Dairy Route Driver for over 40 years. Credo and Terry also did janitorial work for Job Service. He loved to go camping, playing pool, bowling, playing cards, gardening and watching softball and baseball. He also enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren. Credo was a loyal Minnesota Twins Fan. He cherished time spent with his family and loved his nieces and nephews. Credo enjoyed talking to everyone he came in contact with. Credo was a proud member of the South Side Gang, St. Anthony Club, VFW, American Legion, Senior Citizen Sunset Center and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Credo is survived by his wife, Terry of Dickinson; children, David (Liza) Kessel of Bismarck, Dennis (Cathy) Kessel of Mandan, and Tina (Chuck) Erling of Bismarck; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Erv (Marilyn) Kessel and George Kessel, both of Dickinson; sisters, Katie Steinke of Sequim, WA Ludy Kostelecky of Spokane, WA, and Dorothy Kudrna of Dickinson; sister-in-law, Pauline Kessel of Dickinson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Otillia; brothers, Jerome, Frank, John, Ted and Edward; and sisters, Margaret Koffler and Judy Freed. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Pine Room.
