Craig Leon Benz, 67, of Hollywood, Florida, passed away at home on November 13, 2025. A memorial service will be held, at 1 pm, Friday, January 2, 2026 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson with Pastor Lisa Lewton officiating. Private burial will follow.
Visitation for Craig will be one hour prior to his service from 12 pm - 1 pm, Friday, January 2, 2026.
Craig was born on March 29, 1958, in Dickinson, North Dakota, to Walter and Ruby (Hausauer) Benz. Four older brothers welcomed him home. Craig left home as a preschooler to attend a private school for the deaf in Faribault, Minnesota. Summers and holidays he was back on the family farm east of Dunn Center.
During high school he worked at the local SuperValu. Craig graduated from Bethlehem Academy, a private school, in Faribault, Minnesota in 1980. After working at SuperValu in Dickinson for a year, he moved to St. Cloud, Minnesota, to attend Machinist and Tools Dye School. He worked as a machinist for a short time before working for 10 years at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis as a pharmacy technician/assistant.
To get away from the cold, Craig transferred to the VA Hospital in West Palm Beach, Florida, where he worked for 20 years. His mom spent four or five winters with him and really enjoyed those couple months in Florida.
Craig was very artistic. He painted, did needlepoint, and made his family beautiful ornaments for their Christmas trees. His dog, Boney, was a special companion.
Craig is survived by his brothers: Richard (Elaine) of Dickinson; Kevin (Candice) of Dunn Center; LaRue of Fargo; Bradley of Dallas, Texas; and sister Lisa (Alan) Hendrickson of Dunn Center. Nieces, Alecia and Rachel. Nephews, Russell, Josh, Greg, Jared, and Ethan. Special friends Jeanne and Brian Johnston.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law Daphne Benz; and nephew Ryan Benz..
