Dale Theodore Jurgens

Dale Theodore Jurgens of Dickinson, ND, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2026 at the age of 88 at St. Luke's Home with his daughter Patti and his favorite CNA Kyra Kessel at his side.

Dale was born on January 24, 1938, in Richardton, ND to Fred and Edna Mae (Brink) Jurgens. Dale graduated from Taylor High School in 1956. On January 17, 1958 Dale was united in marriage to Sunda Walton. They remained married until Sunda's passing in 2007.

In 1958, Dale hired on with the Northern Pacific Railroad section crew. He worked throughout Montana before transferring to Mandan, ND in 1960. In 1964 Dale and his family moved to Dickinson ND where he continued to work as a signal maintainer for BNSF until his retirement in 2002.

Dale was a member of St. John's Episcopal church in Dickinson. He was also a member of the Eagles and The Elks Club. He especially enjoyed meeting his friends and family for lunch and a beer at the Eagles. Dale obtained his auctioneer's license in 1982. He was a knowledgeable antique collector and enjoyed attending auctions, rummage sales, and visiting antique stores during his travels in order to find hidden treasures to add to his collection. He enjoyed listening to country music, traveling throughout the country and cheering on his favorite team-the Green Bay Packers.

Dale is survived by: his son, Cary (Jerri) Jurgens, Ottertail, MN, daughter, Patti (Todd) Burwick, Fargo, ND, sister, JoAnn (Clint) Pfennig, Valley City, ND, grandchildren, Dan (Jess) Jurgens, Travis Jurgens, Jessica (Jeremy) Stocker, Laken (Dylan) Moore, Dylan (Tayla) Burwick, Autumn (Josh) Schmidt, Sam Garfield, Almeta Garfield, and Bobby Garfield, and 26 great-grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his beloved pug Otis.

Dale was preceded in death by his wife Sunda, parents Fred and Edna Jurgens, mother-in-law Barbara Walton, son Dustan Jurgens, grandsons Jeffrey Jurgens and James Gunwall, and his best friends Diana Wingenbach and Dick Luedtke.

A celebration of Dale's life will be held on Friday, August 28, 2026, at Stevensons Funeral Home in Dickinson, ND. Visitation will be at 9 am with services to follow at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Dickinson mausoleum. Lunch will be served at the Eagles Club at noon.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to The Compassionate Friends or any animal rescue charity.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dad's friends, including Lonny and Dawn Namyniuk and their pug Zeke, Arnie and Sue Kopp, Joe Pasicznyk, and Kyra Kessel CNA for their frequent visits to him at St. Luke's Home or while he was in the hospital. Cristin Heidecker provided friendship and support to Dad by helping him care for Otis after Diana's death. Special thanks to Roger Uy, RN Unit Manager and his staff on theBadlands Unit at St. Luke's Home for the care and compassion they showed to Dad.

Also, thanks to the St. Lukes rehab therapy staff whom Dad referred to as the "therapy girls." Dad looked forward to seeing them every morning for treats, friendship, and a little exercise too!

Dale will be remembered as an honest, generous, responsible and hard-working father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His laughter and sense of humor will be greatly missed.
