Daryl Jurgens

Funeral Service for Daryl Jurgens, 83, of Taylor will be 1:00 pm, Thursday, June 25, 2026 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson with Pastor Winston Titus officiating. Burial will follow at the Immanuel Cemetery in Taylor.

Visitation for Daryl will be 5 pm - 7 pm, Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at Stevenson Funeral Home with a Prayer Service taking place at 6:00 pm.

Daryl passed away June 19, 2026 at Richardton Health Center in Richardton.

Daryl Raymond Jurgens was born September 21, 1942 at the Richardton hospital to William and Lillian (Schill) Jurgens. He was the oldest child with one sister. He was raised north of Taylor on his grandfather's homestead. He attended school in Taylor and graduated in 1960. After high school he helped on the family farm and drove a bulk gas truck in Dickinson. In 1962 he joined the US. Air Force and was stationed in San Antonio, TX Wiesbaden, Germany, and Duluth, MN. He was honorably discharged to help on the family farm. Daryl met Carolyn at the hospital in Richardton, where Carolyn was his nurses aide. Soon after, they were married at St. Mary's Catholic church on November 5, 1966. Their family quickly grew and they were blessed with six children. 4 boys and 2 girls, all of whom were raised on the family farm north of Richardton. Together, their family raised small grains, cattle, hogs, chickens, sheep, dairy cows, and a milking goat. There were always plenty of dogs and cats too. In the 70s they purchased their first truck, a Ford cabover. Initially, Daryl hauled grain to Duluth and returned with small square bales, During the 80s oil boom, Daryl began his over the road trucking career. He hauled grain to Ogden, UT, and brought salt back from Salt Lake City for Burwick Trucking. After Southwest Grain opened in the area, Daryl purchased a grain trailer to begin contract hauling from local elevators to the Gladstone Terminal. Jurgens Trucking grew throughout the years, adding more trucks and trailers. Daryl enjoyed driving his semi trucks along side his family (3 of his sons and his wife). In his spare time, he helped repair equipment and enjoyed tinkering on his old tractors. He also enjoyed playing cards and visiting with others. He treasured the time spent at sporting events and school activities for both his children and grandchildren. There was never a stranger when Daryl was present. He was active in the community as a member of the Taylor School Board, Stark County Farm Bureau, City of Taylor, Richardton Farmers Union Oil and Cenex C-Store, Taylor Lions Club and Taylor Senior Citizens. Daryl was never shy to share his love for Jesus. Daryl is survived by his wife, Carolyn; sons Perry (Christine) Jurgens of Gladstone, Ronald (Roberta) Jurgens of Park River, Daryl Michael (Paula) Jurgens of Dickinson; daughters Jeanine (Aaron) Schmidt and Jody (Jonathen) Sackman, both of Dickinson; 15 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. One sister, Doris (Reynold) Schmaltz of Bismarck. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lillian Jurgens, and his third son, Craig Jurgens.
