David passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at Sanford Health, Bismarck.

David was born June 14th, 1945 to William and Ellen (Brennan) Urban. He was raised mostly around the Fryberg, ND area. He attended school there until the 8th grade. David decided that the love of his freedoms in our great country needed to be defended, so in 1965 he enlisted in the Army. During his 3 years of service he was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam war. While there, he served as an army bridge crew member, and he and his fellow soldiers became accomplished at building and repairing bridges. He was so proud of his own military service for his country. In 1968 he returned home, and started dating Bertha Hutzenbiler who soon became the love of his life. On October 4th they were joined in marriage and soon had a housefull of 8 children and many nieces and nephews that loved to come for visits. David worked hard as an oil pumper while raising his family in Bowman. The family has many wonderful memories of them and family friends around the piano singing and praising the Lord. He was transferred from Bowman and the family moved to Williston in 1990. After his son Dean's heart transplant in 1992, they moved to their farm house South of Belfield to be closer to both him and Bertha's families, where he and his wife reside today. David spent lots of time with Dean during his recovery. They both knew Rochester and all the Ronald McDonald guests well. David continued to work until he retired at the age of 62. He wasn't content being retired so he soon began recycling metal and also found purpose serving others by volunteering at the Belfield Food Pantry, the church and fellow neighbors needing a helping hand.

David loves his family, but his greatest love and longest friendship was with the Lord. You could always find him making time for God and reading his word. He would sit quietly in God's presence and treasured every moment he could with him. Along with the love of his family his church family was also very important to him. He truly enjoyed blessing others. He was loved by so many. A loving husband, son, father, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, neighbor and friend. His reunion in Heaven was a great day.

David is survived by his wife of 58 years Bertha (Hutzenbiler) Urban; children, Laura (Rocky) Sarsland of Ludlow, SD, Shirley (Jeremy) Binstock of South Heart, ND, Cindy (Cory) Bailey of Dickinson, ND, Daniel Urban of Watford City, ND, Dennis (Kelly) Urban of Dickinson ND, Dean (Juli) Urban of Belfield ND, Donavan (Dana) Urban of Dickinson, ND, Corey Hoon of Belfield ND; 23 grandchildren, 22 great- grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and siblings.

He is preceded in death by his parents; beloved daughter, MaryBeth (Urban) Hoon, grandson, Jordan Binstock; daughters-in-law, Marla Urban and Jane Urban; and many other loved ones.
