Diane Renee (Rice) Hatzenbuehler was born on June 19, 1959, to Herb and Marlene (Anton) Rice. Diane attended Dickinson Public Schools graduating from Dickinson High. After graduation, Diane entered the workforce as a housekeeper at various motels and office buildings in Dickinson. She also worked at the animal shelter where she loved spending time with the animals.

On June 22, 1977, Diane married Joe Hatzenbuehler. From this union, two sons were born Dean and Travis. She enjoyed spending time with her sons and their families. Joe passed away in 2020.  Diane later met her companion of almost 28 years, Cordell (Corkey) Leidholm. They enjoyed fishing, camping and trying their luck at pull tabs. Watching movies was also a pastime in which they engaged. Cordell passed away in 2021.

Diane’s family had a cabin at Lake Patterson where they spent summer weekends. It is here that Diane acquired her hobbies of camping, fishing, and boating. She also enjoyed spending time with friends such as Colleen Rohr and Linda Sticka.  She was a giving and loving friend who was willing to help anyone. As an only child, Diane, became independent at an early age and was her own best advocate for her care when she became ill. She called insurance providers and others so she could be moved back to Dickinson to be with her family and friends. Diane left this life on Thursday, October 26 at St. Benedict’s Health Center in Dickinson due to a lengthy lung illness.

Diane is survived by her parents, Herb and Marlene; her sons, Dean and Travis (Carrie); three grandchildren, Hugo, Chase, and Preston; two great-grandchildren, Brinley and Bradley; and her two dogs Hailey and Gabby. She is also survived by her godmother, Caroline Hanson and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
