Donald Fitterer

A Memorial service for Donald Fitterer, 82, of Glen Ullin will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Glen Ullin. Burial will follow in the North Dakota Veteran Cemetery, Mandan. Military honors will be presented by the Mandan local VFW.

Donnie passed away Sunday, February 8, 2026 at CHI St. Alexius, Bismarck.

Donald Duane Fitterer was born in Glen Ullin on April 19, 1943, the son of Leo and Celestine (Emter) Fitterer. Growing up in Glen Ullin, he attended school and graduated from Glen Ullin High School in 1961. Following graduation, Donnie was enlisted in the US Army and served for four years. It was during this time that he married Frances "Dolly" Elmer. Their marriage was blessed with three children. The family eventually returned to North Dakota. Donnie earned his accounting degree from the University of Mary. He worked as a CPA Auditor for the state for a several years. In 1976, the family moved to Clark, SD, where they bought and operated a grocery store. Upon his return to North Dakota, Donnie was employed with Basin Electric until he retired and moved back to Glen Ullin. Donnie loved flying and had his own plane. He enjoyed golfing with his brother and son and he was known as a character who loved giving his friends a hard time. Donnie was also very skilled in carpentry and talented as a painter on canvas.

Donnie is survived by his daughters, Lee Ann McLaughlin (Leon Wald) of Bismarck, Lisa (Zach) Ferguson of Roswell, NM; brother, Harlan (Jeanne) Fitterer of Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren, Christopher (Danielle), Landon (Kemira), Jaxon (Jessica), Jenna (Ryan), Julia (Treyton); great-grandchildren, Cade, Cole, Grayson, Brecken, Myles, Mila, McKenley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Celestine Fitterer; son, David Fitterer; brother, Eugene Fitterer; sisters, Delores Richardson, Donna Brown.
