Funeral Mass for Douglas Ellenbecker, 91, of Dickinson, will be 10:00 am, Friday, January 30, 2026 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Robert Shea celebrating. Burial will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery.

Visitation for Douglas will be 4 pm - 6 pm, Thursday, January 29, 2026 at Stevenson Funeral Home with Rosary and Vigil Service at 6:00 pm.

Douglas passed away Saturday, January 24, 2026 at St. Benedict's Health Center, Dickinson.

Douglas Leo Ellenbecker was born August 20, 1934 in Gettysburg, South Dakota, the son of Leo John and Eleanor Adale (Sangster) Ellenbecker. He grew up in Seneca and Rapid City, South Dakota, graduating from Rapid City Central in 1953. Douglas entered the U.S. Army in February 1954, being honorably discharged in 1957, and then served in the Reserves through 1962. Doug was united in marriage to Bertha Anna Kostelecky on August 22, 1959 in Dickinson at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. To this union, Paul, Wayne and Karla Jean were born. In 1956, Doug went to work as a Hydrographer for the US Department of Interior, Geological Survey (USGS). He worked in Bismarck, Williston and Dickinson for a total of 36 years. Doug enjoyed photography, hunting, fishing, bowling and traveling.

Doug was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and he was an usher for the parish. Doug was a lifetime member of the Elks, Eagles and Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of St. Anthony Club, National Active and Retired Federal Employees.

Doug is survived by his wife, Bertha of 66 years; two sons, Paul D. (Amy) Ellenbecker of Minot, ND and Wayne D. (Cindy) Ellenbecker of Coeur d'Alene, ID; six grandchildren, Kelsey, Nicole, Alexis, Brittney, Sebastian, and Daphne; five great grandchildren Charlotte, Isaac, Christian, Isadora, and Landon; and one sister, Marge (Larry) Bartle of Bellevue,WA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Eleanor Ellenbecker; infant brother, Doyle; infant daughter, Karla Jean; sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis (John) Clinton; father and mother-in-law, Louis and Anna Kostelecky; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Olheiser.

In lieu of flowers Doug's family suggests making a donation to a memorial of your choice.
