Earl passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2023 at the Golden Valley Nursing Home in Beach, ND.

Earl was born January 5, 1941, the fourth of five sons born to Norbert Henry and Laura Frances (Moyer) Bares. He was reared and lived most of his life at his parental home in Beach, ND. While attending school at Lincoln Elementary and Beach High, Earl especially enjoyed playing basketball and football. His play was enhanced by great hand strength gained from doing his farm chores (milking cows twice daily)! Earl enjoyed farm life, choosing to assist, later partnering with his dad and eventually farming on his own. He was a great help to his parents, not only with the farm work, but especially with their personal needs as they aged.

Earl was baptized and confirmed at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church where he was a devout and generous parishioner. For many years, he enjoyed greeting, ushering and leading Rosary. He remained unmarried his entire life. After his farm years, Earl worked at Beach High School as a janitor. This was a perfect fit for him as he liked the work and loved the people who welcomed him into their “school family”. His incredible memory enabled him to remember, and greet by name, the staff, teachers, students, their families and community residents! It was important to him to know, be known by, and “liked” by all. He also enjoyed his role as loyal Buccaneer fan. Eventually, as illness forced his retirement and he went to Wibaux Nursing Home for a few months to recover.

In the fall of 2016, Earl moved into Golden Valley Manor in Beach. Before long he was hired to help with custodial duties. His work ethic and attention to detail were qualities much appreciated. For entertainment, he loved word searches and he looked forward to calling numbers for bingo or just playing the game.

In earlier years, Earl enjoyed board games, playing canasta and whist, often filling in as his mom’s partner at her Homemakers Club card parties. He loved reading western novels, especially those by Louis L’Amour. He enjoyed watching professional wrestling on TV with his dad. Earl also loved Pro football and kept track of players and statistics.

Earl is survived by his brothers, William (Collene) of Fargo, Larry of Dickinson, Leo (Sharon) of Staunton, VA, and Richard (Peggy) of Grand Forks; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Laura and Norbert Bares and sister-in-law, Elaine (Kittelson) Bares.
