Funeral Services for Edgar Hoesel, 90, of New Salem, ND, will be 11:00 a.m. CDT. Thursday, March 5, 2026 at Peace Church, New Salem with Pastor Mark Hassler officiating. Burial will follow at Peace Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. CDT. Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at Peace Church, New Salem, with a Prayer Service taking place at 6:00 p.m. CDT.
Edgar passed away Friday, February 27, 2026 at his home in New Salem.
Edgar was born June 23, 1935, the son of Herbert E. and Verna (Lange) Hoesel. Growing up, he attended a rural school north of Judson. As a young man, he worked on the Bill Gaebe farm and at Einars Surge Service in New Salem. Edgar married Esther Marie Wolf on August 23, 1955 at Peace Church in New Salem. Their marriage was blessed with five children. In 1959, Edgar and Esther purchased a farm south of New Salem where they raised their family in their dairy and farming business. In 2005, they moved into New Salem. Edgar became an employee of Morton County Fair Building for ten years, retiring in 2015.
Faith was extremely important to Edgar, and it was upon this foundation that he built his marriage and family. His greatest treasure in life was to pass this value on to his family through each generation. He was a member of Peace Church Council, Pioneer Club and New Salem's Historical Society. Edgar enjoyed woodworking, making doll houses, barns, birds and bird houses. He also enjoyed gardening, working on puzzles and playing cards.
Edgar is survived by sons, Keith (Roberta) Hoesel of New Salem, Michael (Joann) Hoesel of Mandan, David (Susan) Hoesel of Dickinson; son-in-law, Stephen Nicolai of Milnor, ND; sister, Darlene Lennie of New Salem; sisters-in-law, Betty Hoesel of New Salem, Rose Wolf, of Mandan, ND; 17 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther; daughters, Cherie Nicolai; Valerie (Bruce) Blend; parents, Herbert and Verna Hoesel; step-mother, Clara Hoesel; brothers, Norbert and Jerald (Jenny) Hoesel; sister, Lorraine (Dick) Henke; brother-in-law, Allyn Lennie; great-grandchildren, Gabriel Crist and Kyle Whetsel.
