We mourn the passing of our dear grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and mother, Evelyn, on February 28, 2024. She passed away at CHI St. Alexius in Dickinson surrounded by her family. She had a kind heart, unshakable faith in God, and endless love for her family. We celebrate a life well-lived.

Evelyn was born on August 31, 1928, to Christ and Emma Wock. She lived in Dickinson, North Dakota which is where she met our grandfather, Martin. They were married for 71 years. She gave birth to our parents, all seven of them, and I am amazed at how she managed it all. Despite this, she remained an active member of her community and church. She served as a 4-H leader, Home Health Aide, and Senior Meals volunteer for five years. She was part of the Homemaker Club and served as a clerk on the School Board Elections for 30 years. She was also a Eucharistic Minister for 20 years at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Belfield. All of this while caring for our grandfather and raising her seven children. Of course, our parents would have us believe they were all perfect angels.

Our grandmother was truly a special woman, and we feel blessed to have had her in our lives. As we now become grandparents ourselves, we hope to create memories that are as special as the ones she made for us. We aim to pass on to our grandchildren some of her amazing qualities such as her faith, honesty, selflessness, lack of interest in material possessions, and loving spirit. We can only hope and pray that these traits will continue to be passed down from generation to generation. As the saying goes, 'Grandparents are like stars; you don't always see them, but you know they're there.'

She is survived by six children; Kathy Light, Mineral Wells, TX, Connie (Vince) Gillette, Bismarck, ND, Nick (Gail) Haag, Spearfish, SD; Susan Sanchez, Cheyenne, WY, Tina Thornton, Dickinson, ND, Jim (Roxann) Haag, Fairfield, ND; sisters Shirley Sample, AZ, and Marylene, ID; 23 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous niece and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Martin; parents, Christ and Emma Wock; two brothers, Ray Wock and John Wock; daughter, Sandra Flath; grandsons, Brant Flath and Ronald Flath, Jr.; granddaughter, Jennifer Haag; and great-great-grandson, Bennett Cash.
