Fanny Kawecki

Funeral Service for Fanny Kawecki, 39, of Ekalaka, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 12, 2026 at Carter County Elementary School with LeRoy Schallenberger officiating. Burial will follow at Beaver Lodge Cemetery in Ekalaka.

For those not able to attend the service will be Livestreamed starting 10 min. before service begins. 

Visitation will take place from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Carter County Elementary.

Fanny passed away Saturday, June 6, 2026 at her home.

Fanny Kai was born February 2, 1987, at Malone Hospital in upstate New York to John and Karen Stay. Fanny was raised on a dairy farm in Richville, New York, alongside her siblings.

A vibrant and "spunky" soul with a beautiful smile and curly brown hair, Fanny was known for her hard work and determination. Her life changed at age 22 when she met Robin Kawecki at church. They were married on July 2, 2011. Robin was the love of her life, and together they began a journey that took them from New York to North Dakota in 2014 for Robin's work in the oilfield, eventually settling in Ekalaka, Montana to build their home and family. They were blessed to adopt four beautiful children. Fanny was a devoted mother to Rianne (12), Macy (10), Jaden (9), and Jason (7).

She possessed a true gift for children, having touched many lives through her work at "Giggles and Wiggles" in Ekalaka before transitioning to home childcare, where she was deeply loved by both children and parents.

Fanny was an outgoing, well-known and vibrant presence in her community. Whether she was spending quality time with her family or working on productive craft projects, she did so with love and dedication to her family. They were her world, and her legacy of love, faith and kindness will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.

Above all, Fanny was a woman of deep faith. She saw her need for Jesus at a young age and walked faithfully with her Savior until the very end. Her greatest desire was to raise her children to know Him, and her legacy of love, faith, and kindness will remain in the hearts of all who know her.

Fanny is survived by her dear husband, Robin Kawecki; children, Rianne, Macy, Jaden, and Jason; parents, John and Karen Stay of Richville, N.Y.; brother, Kori Stay of Gouverneur, N.Y.; sister, Rosemary Goff (Richard Goff) of Plevna, MT; sister, Emma Terhune of El Paso, IL; and brother, Noah Stay of Richville, N.Y.; maternal grandfather, Garwood W. Cline of Olivebridge, NY.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Lorraine Cline; paternal grandparents, John and Hamako Stay; and brother-in-law, Aaron Terhune.
