George passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at CHI St. Alexius, Bismarck.

George Steven Tuhy was born on May 22, 1929, to Steve and Katherine (Kostelecky) Tuhy. Katherine died when George was very young and Steve married Agnes Zastoupil. George grew up on the family farm north of South Heart and attended school in South Heart. Following his education, George continued working on the family farm, where he developed the strong work ethic and love for agriculture that stayed with him throughout his life.

During this time, George met the love of his life, Gertrude "Trude" Sadowsky. The two were united in marriage at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in New Hradec on May 29, 1951. Together they made their home on a farm near South Heart, where they were blessed with six children. Later, the family purchased and moved to the Gust Mittelstadt Ranch near Dunn Center, where they fell in love with the beauty of the North Dakota Badlands and the Roughrider country, they proudly called home.

George truly loved the farming and ranching way of life, and harvest season was always his favorite time of year. Even into his 90s, he could still be found helping with branding and wrestling calves and spent countless hours making round after round on the swather cutting hay. He was especially fond of his John Deere tractors and Chevy pickups. In his younger years, George enjoyed fishing, bowling, and playing cards, especially pinochle, whist, and poker. He was well known for making "red eye" and always enjoyed old-time music.

George was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart, and he was never without gum or candy to share with them. Together Trude and George built a life centered around faith, family, and hard work.

A man of deep faith, George was dedicated to the Catholic Church throughout his life. He was a long time member of St. Joseph's Catholic church in Killdeer and a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. George served on various boards over the years. He was a longtime member of the local Farmers Union board of directors, served on the Finance Council at St. Joseph's, and served two terms on the Killdeer Ambulance board of directors. George was also part owner of Western Livestock for several years.

In December 2022, George moved to Legacy Lodge assisted living in Killdeer.

George is survived by his children, Dan (Nancy) Tuhy of Dunn Center, Jane Perdue of Bismarck, Tom (Suzi) Tuhy of Dunn Center, Mary (Bob) Wheeling of Killdeer, Bob (Gay) Tuhy of Dunn Center, and Ann (Kim) Knutson of Dunn Center. 14 grandchildren, Steven (Danielle) Tuhy, Kelly (Jimmy) Fritel, Rachel (Travis) Kuehl, Shane (Rachael) Tuhy, Jeffrey (D'Ann) Erickson, Katie (Shawn) Donahey, Karolyn (Drew) Allen, Sean (Tess) Tuhy, Mandy (Steve) Hauff, Jacob (Brittany) Wheeling, Kristi Knutson, Kelsey Knutson, Jamie Meidinger, and Erik Tuhy (fiancée Paige); 26 great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Bernice Hoffmann and Betty Kordonowy.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Trude; his parents, Steve and Katherine Tuhy; stepmother Agnes Tuhy, siblings, Lillian Dvorak, Marge Hibl, Minnie Heidt, Albert Tuhy, and Mary Mann; and son-in-law, Art Perdue.
