Gerald “Jerry” Jestnes, 79, of Bismarck, originally of Marmarth, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at Baptist Health in Bismarck. Services will be held at a later date.
Gerald Warren Jestnes was born on July 8, 1945 in Baker, Montana to Emer B. and Evelyn (Woodman) Jestnes. He grew up in Marmarth and graduated from Baker High School in 1963 as the class valedictorian. Following graduation, he attended Dickinson State College and North Dakota State University. He was a member of the Dickinson State Alumni Association.
Gerald’s first job was at General Motors Headquarters in Detroit, Michigan. He then returned to North Dakota, where he worked as a land surveyor for Toman Engineering in Mandan and later as a city planner for Beach.
Gerald loved animals, rescuing cats and one special dog, Sparky. He loved old cars, especially those from the 1960s. He even gave drag-racing a try. Gerald was a die-hard Vikings fan, whether it was a winning season or a losing season. He also enjoyed number puzzles and jigsaw puzzles.
Gerald is survived by his sister, Virginia Jestnes of Bismarck; numerous cousins; and special friend, Arleen Ferrell.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Emer and Evelyn; and his grandparents.
