A Funeral Mass for Gladys Zastoupil, 88 of South Heart, will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in South Heart with Father David Richter and Msgr. Thomas Richeter con-celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Visitation for Gladys will be 5 pm - 7 pm, Monday, July 20, 2026 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson with a Rosary and Vigil service being held at 6:00 pm.

Gladys passed away Monday, July 13, 2026 at St. Benedict's Health Center in Dickinson.

Gladys C. Zastoupil, daughter of Sebastian R. and Agatha Gerhardt Frank, was born June 17, 1938 in Stark County, North Dakota. She attended school at St. Pius Catholic School in Sheffield, ND. Gladys worked at Sims Café from 1955-1957 and she did babysitting for families. On September 23, 1957 she married Benedict G. Zastoupil at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dickinson. They purchased a farm northeast of South Heart, where they raised their five sons, Dennis, Melvin, Dean, Rodney and Patrick. They also operated Zastoupil Hide & Fur Company for many years and Gladys had a large garden and raised countless species of birds on the farm.

Gladys was a faithful servant, volunteering her time and talents in her church of St. Mary's in South Heart. She was a rosary leader, Eucharistic minister, and a reader. She was the director of the Religious Education program and taught CCD for 30 years, helping many second graders receive their First Holy Communion. Because of her faithful service, she received the Catechist, Outstanding Catechist, and Catechist of the Year awards from the Diocese of Bismarck. Gladys did Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, took the first hour of Eucharistic Adoration every Tuesday morning for many years, took Communion to shut-ins, sent out cards for St. Gerards Committee, purchased and bagged candy every year for the parish Christmas party. She was a member of St. Theresa's Guild of St. Mary's Christian Mothers. The Zastoupil's were chosen twice as the outstanding Catholic Family of the year by the Knights of Columbus Council 6308. Gladys was involved for years with the Women's Cursillo in Dickinson. She was a member of St. Pius Verein, St. Anthony Club and the South Heart Senior Citizens where she was the treasurer for years. Gladys was a 4-H leader and involved in the 4-H program for over 25 years, receiving several Friends of 4-H awards. She was recognized through the RSVP program for her volunteer services and she received recognition from the North Dakota Fur Takers for all the work she did for their organization.

Gladys was a member of multiple Birthday Clubs. She loved watching and feeding birds. She was also fond of playing Bingo and enjoyed baking and trying new recipes. Gladys was an excellent cook who loved to entertain and made sure that no one ever went home hungry.

Gladys is survived by sons, Dennis (Mary) and Melvin (Laurie) of Dickinson, Dean (Jamie) of Fargo and Rodney (Brenda) of Bismarck; six grandchildren, Christine (Michael) Jordan of Dickinson, Melissa (Michael) Digatono of Sioux Falls, SD; Garret and Grant of Eau Claire, WI; Dallas of Mandan, ND; Cory of Tampa, FL; great-grandchildren, Joshua Jordan, Zachary Jordan, Cedella Digatono Rueben Digatono, Ophelia Digatono; brother, Bede (Rose) Frank of Bismarck; sisters, Dolores Brinster of Scappoose, OR; Millie (Ray) Stockert of Fergus Falls, MN.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ben of 65 years; son, Patrick; parents, Sebastian and Agatha; sisters, Martha Kudrna, Rita Berger, Hilda Huck; infant sister Catherine; infant brother, Raymond; brothers, Jacob Frank, Victor Frank.
