Graveside services for Hazel M. Christensen, 102, of Bismarck, formally Dunn Center, will be Friday April 8, 2022 at 1:00 p.m., at Dunn Center Cemetery with Revered Dr. CH, (Maj) Mathew C. Christensen officiating. Burial will follow.

Visitation for Hazel will be at 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., on Friday April 8, 2022, at Stevenson Funeral Home in Killdeer.

Hazel passed away on March 28, 2022, at Edgewood Village in Bismarck, ND.

Hazel M. Christensen was born on Reckard ranch north of Dunn Center on October 9, 1919, the daughter of Benjamin F. “Frank” and Reidun (Loraas) Reckard. She grew up on the family ranch north of Dunn Center. She rode horseback almost every day to Connolly #1 Country School, and went on graduating from Dunn Center High School in 1937. Hazel went on to work on the Connolly Ranch, where she met her husband.

On October 8, 1940, Hazel married Curtiss Christensen at Normanna Lutheran Church. They then moved back to the Christensen family ranch north of Dunn Center. It was here that they made their home and raised their three children. Hazel made her home on the ranch for nearly 75 years before moving to Bismarck in 2014.

Curtiss and Hazel enjoyed working side by side on the ranch, she enjoyed riding horseback whenever she got a chance. She liked to knit, especially sweaters, and to cross stitch. She had a love for reading and doing crossword puzzles as well.

Hazel was very proud of her Norwegian Heritage.

Hazel is survived by her children, Delmonte (Sally) Christensen of Minot, ND, Eldon Christensen of Kalispell, MT, Lucy Fleckenstein of Bismarck; four grandchildren, Dennis (Theresa) Christensen of Lowell, MI, Tanya Christensen Wayne of Portland, OR, Matthew C. (Jessica) Christensen of Columbia, SC, E. Todd (Shelly) Christensen of Kalispell, MT; seven great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Pamela Reckard.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Curtiss “Curt” Christensen (2006); a brother Ben Reckard, sisters; Irene (Werner) Sather and Dorothy (Oliver) Light. Son-in-law, Pete Fleckenstein. And a great-grandson, Mathew T. Christensen.
