Henry Reichert

Funeral Mass for Dr. Henry Reichert, Jr. 84, of Bismarck, will be held at 10:00 am MT on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at St. Patrick's Church, Dickinson. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery.

Henry passed away on February 28, 2026, at the age of 84.

Originally from Dickinson, ND, "Hank" as he was affectionately known, was born on May 14, 1941, the first son and second child of the late Dr. H. Larry Reichert and Virginia Reichert. He graduated Dickinson High School in 1959, attended St. John's University for college and Marquette University for medical school. Defying his high school counselor who said he wouldn't amount to anything; Hank completed his Residency and became a nationally respected Ophthalmologist in North Dakota. An Inventor, Hank developed an Intra-Ocular Lens for cataract surgery. Establishing the "Eye Clinic of North Dakota" in Bismarck, Hank was the first of his time to fly his own plane to satellite clinics around the State.

Besides his family and friends, flying was Hank's passion in life. He flew for business and fun, mostly fun, having had the privilege of owning and flying a number of airplanes including his most prized; a P-51 Mustang named the "Dakota Kid." With markings resembling his patient's P-51 flown during World War II, "Hank" could be found flying around North Dakota or from air show to air show across the United States.

Retiring from his Medical Practice in 2000, Hank had spent the last 25 years with his loving wife and family; and of course, pursuing his passion of flying. While never really retired, Hank became the family doctor for every cough, sneeze, and skinned knee of his grandchildren. With his infectious smile, and generous spirit, Hank was always just a phone call or visit away; there for all of us in so many ways; he will be greatly missed.

He was met in heaven by his parents Dr. H. Larry, and Virgina, and his older Sister Connie. He is survived by his loving wife Mabel, his brothers Tim (Mary), Tom (Pam), Gerry (Sally), his sister Rosemary (Lon) and his three children, Larry (KC), Chris (Jane), and Heidi (Tony) and six grandchildren; Anthony, Sarah, Abby, Giada, Katie, and Luke. He was a loving Husband, devoted Father, loyal Brother, cherished Grandfather, and Friend to all who had the benefit of knowing him.
