Irene passed away March 19, 2024 at St. Benedict’s Health Center in Dickinson.

Irene Mae was born on February 23, 1932 to Oswald V and Pearl (Leroy) Olson. Irene grew up in the Killdeer Mountains with 4 brothers and one sister. She attended country school in her early years and later graduated from Killdeer High School with the Class of 1950. Irene married Charles Meduna at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Belfield, ND on June 18, 1950. Irene and Charles enjoyed 70 wonderful years together and welcomed four sons, Dennis, Chuck, Barry, and Larry, and one daughter, Debbie. During their marriage, the family moved around a bit, living in Nebraska, Watford City, and Dickinson before settling north of South Heart for many years.

Over the years, Irene and Charles enjoyed road trips with their camper to relatives out west and in Minnesota and the occasional trip to the casino. They also owned a cabin at Skunk Bay on Lake Sakakawea where they cherished their time spent on the boat and fishing with their kids and grandkids. Irene was a wonderful cook. She was famous for her banana cream pie, chokecherry jelly, homemade pickles, marshmallow dessert, apple bars and so many other family favorites. You never went hungry when Irene was around! Irene also enjoyed sewing and gardening. She will be remembered for her unconditional love for her family and friends and her kind nature. Irene will be missed dearly but her legacy will live on in her family.

Irene is survived by her sons, Chuck (Janel), Barry (Laura), both of Dickinson; daughter, Debbie (Florian) Kuntz of Belfield; brothers, Gary Olson of WA, Harold (Maureen) Olson of Killdeer; sister, Marilyn Walker of Deer Lodge; nine grandchildren, Kris (Chantel) Meduna, Kara (Chris Messer) Meduna, Kalyn (Marcus) Murphy, Kayden (Zach) Pavlicek, Ryan (Ann) Kuntz, Corey Kuntz, Jennifer (Andy) Kuntz Cabeen, Jared (Alyshia) Meduna, Nicole (Dan) Renshaw; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oswald and Pearl Olson; husband, Charles (2020); sons, Dennis and Larry Meduna; daughter-in-law, Pauli Meduna; great granddaughters; Alexis Meduna and Charly Renshaw; and brothers, Jack and Clifford Olson.

The family would like to sincerely thank all of the staff at St. Benedict's for the outstanding care they provided for Irene.
