Funeral Mass for Irene Volesky, 90, of Dickinson, will be 10:00 am, Thursday, June 11, 2026 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Dickinson with Father Keith Streifel celebrating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Visitation for Irene will be 5 pm - 7 pm, Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson with Rosary and Vigil taking place at 6:00 pm.
Irene passed away Thursday, June 4, 2026 at St. Benedict's Health, Dickinson.
Irene was born September 20, 1935 on the family homestead in Dunn County, the daughter of George and Barbara Armbrust Hendricks. As a young girl, she attended Willmen School in Dunn County, through the eighth grade. Irene married Edwin Volesky on September 5, 1956 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. They lived on his parent's farm in Dunn County for four years before moving into Dickinson. Their marriage was blessed with seven children, Steven, Kurt, Bryan, Jarell, Janet, Wayne and Lorna. As a devoted mother raising her children, Irene also shared her caring patience and warm heart as an in-home daycare provider for fifteen years. She was a lady of deep faith and was very involved in her church, volunteering her time and talent. Irene served as Eucharistic Minister for the homebound, co-chair of St. Joseph's Church, historian committee, centennial book committee, Ad-Hoc committee for St. Joseph's School, God's Share and Mardi Gras meals chairperson, and as a seamstress sewed custom Baptismal gowns, server gowns and window coverings. She was a member of St. Ann's Altar Society, Christian Mothers and RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program). Irene was a member of the Dakota Gals - Red Hats and Southwest Dakota Birders. She loved and was an avid bird watcher and gardener. Traveling with Edwin was a great joy and together they traveled to Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Hawaii, Rome and Medugorje.
Irene is survived by her sons, Steven, Kurt, Bryan, Jarell (Michelle), all of Dickinson and Wayne of Monument, CO; her daughter, Janet (Jeff) Weir of Jensen Beach, FL; 17 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Marge (Tony) Aman of Gladstone and Shirl Wamre of Dickinson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin; her daughter, Lorna Goebel; her parents, George and Barbara Hendricks; her sister, Rose Redmond; her brothers, Louie "Nick" Hendricks and Don Hendricks; and her grandson, Jade Volesky.
