James Perhus

A Funeral Service for James "Jim" Perhus, 76, of Taylor, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson. Burial will follow at the Kyseth Cemetery in Marshall, ND.

Visitation for Jim will be 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Friday, August 14, 2026 at the funeral home with a prayer service at 6:00 pm.

Jim passed away Monday, August 10, 2026 at his home in Taylor.

James Kendell Perhus, or as his friends and family called him, Jim, was born on April 17th, 1950, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Dickinson, ND, to Clinton and Ruth (Hueske) Perhus. Jim was the youngest with two older sisters, and they grew up on the ranch west of Marshall. Jim attended the Ziner school district and transferred after two years to Taylor Public School, where he graduated. Jim then attended North Dakota State University and earned his Bachelor's degree in Agriculture and Animal Science in 1973. After graduating, he returned to the ranch to work with his dad. At the time of Clinton's death, Jim took over the ranch at age 25 and ran it until he passed. On March 5th, 1977, Jim married Linda Anderson, and in 1984 they had their daughter Emily. Jim and Linda purchased the Anderson ranch that Linda grew up on, and together ran both ranches with Emily, raising cattle, wheat, and corn. The ranch was Jim's passion, and he enjoyed running it with his family. He was the true brains behind the operation, an incredibly hard worker, and completely irreplaceable. Jim supported many community events, especially the Taylor Horsefest and the Good Ol' Taylor Days. Jim was also a lifelong active member of the Marshall Lutheran Church, serving on the council for many years, and the Dunn County Historical Society, serving as Vice President until his passing. Besides ranching and being an active community member, Jim enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, making several trips to attend numerous sports and fine arts activities. Jim was excited for the future of his family and the ranch and to see each one grow.

Jim is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter Emily (Chris) Zarak; grandchildren Tessa, William James, and Harper Zarak; sisters Beverly Elkin and Dorothy Morris; sisters-in-law Sharon Sorenson and Claudia Anderson; nephews Kelly, Brian, and Jim; nieces Krista, Jennifer, Sonjia, Carol, and Sue; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton and Ruth; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Odin and Erna Anderson; brothers-in-law, Wayne Anderson, Dale Anderson, and Ron Sorensen; and nephew, Sheldon Anderson.
