Janet passed away Friday, March 1, 2024, at Marian Manor Healthcare Center, Glen Ullin, ND.
Janet was born January 3, 1942, in Richardton, ND to Emil and Kathryn (Kindsvogel) Heinle. Janet was very involved on her parents’ farm and ranch 14 miles south of Hebron. She loved checking cows with her dad and sister on horseback. Janet was involved in rodeo in her younger years and was even the Hebron Saddle Club Queen in 1960.
Janet started dating the love of her life, Allen Sayler her sophomore year of High School. She graduated from Hebron High School in 1960 as the salutatorian. Together the couple went to Dickinson State College where Janet received her teacher’s certificate and Allen completed a degree in mathematics. The High School sweethearts were married at St. John’s UCC on August 10, 1963.
Together Janet and Allen began their teaching careers in Savage and Sidney, Montana, from 1963-1970. Janet taught 4th grade and Allen taught mathematics. During their teaching careers they took time off in the summers and toured the U.S, visiting the East and West Coast and everything in between, adventurously sleeping mainly in a tent.
In 1971 they moved back to Hebron, ND to take over Allen’s family farm. Janet worked hard and complained little. In addition to doing any job on the farm (with cattle being her favorite), she also had many off-farm jobs. She worked for the US Census Bureau, Schwartz Law Firm, Dakota Community Bank and Insurance, and Verda Draeb Tax and Bookkeeping. She was also involved in many organizations – WIFE (Women Involved In Farm Economics), Jayceettes, St. John’s Women’s Guild, and Hebron Tri-County Homemakers.
Janet and Allen were blessed with 3 children – Tracy, Troy, and Trisha. Janet was very involved with her children using the gift of her teaching skills. She was both a nurturer and enforcer and made sure the kids had their homework done and also got them involved with activities and organizations like 4-H, FFA, band, and choir. She was an excellent cook and not only prepared traditional meals with her touch but also experimented in cooking nontraditional like Greek or Chinese. She was a fantastic gardener, painted earlier in life, and enjoyed reading but most of all was involved with her family. Later in life when she and Allen retired, they spent many days running to grandchildren’s activities and camping.
On October 11, 2007, tragedy hit their family when Tracy passed away from Ehlers-Danlos, a connective tissue disease. His son Eric passed away from the same disease on July 20, 2016. Despite the heartbreaks, Janet and Allen decided to live their life as best as they could.
Janet is survived by her husband Allen, the love of her life for 60 years. Two children, Troy (Tanja) Sayler, Bismarck, ND, and Trisha (Tony) Schneider, Ashley, ND; Her daughter in-law, Rachel (Jeff) Lovin, Fargo, ND. She has 6 surviving Grandchildren – Adam Sayler (Tracy), Fargo, ND; Ryan and Brittany Sayler (Troy), Kulm, ND; Evan Sayler (Troy) Denver, CO; Kiana Sayler (Troy), Fargo, ND; Grant Schneider (Trisha), Ashley, ND and Kathryn Schneider (Trisha), Fargo, ND.
