Janice Marie Steen

Funeral Service for Janice Steen, 86, of Baker will take place 11:00 am Friday, August 7, 2026 at the American Lutheran Church with Don Buerkle officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in New Town, ND. For those unable to attend serve it will be livestreamed 10 min. prior to service.

Janice passed away on July 30, 2026 at Fallon Medical Complex.

Janice was born November 8, 1939 in Mountrail County, ND to Lawrence and Lena (Hanson) Lund. She grew up there along with her six siblings. She did her schooling in New Town and graduated in 1957. After graduation she moved to Williston, ND and began her very long career as a secretary at various businesses with in the community. It was there she met Donald "Donny" Beard and they were married on May 3, 1959 in New Town, ND. Janice and Donny began a family that included, Pam, Les, Marilyn and Marlys.

Donny passed away in 1992 and she continued to work and live in Williston. Janice loved dancing, reading, and frequented to single dances in the area. This is where she met and fell in love with Gordon Steen from Baker, MT. This began a new chapter for Janice marrying Gordon on January 17, 1997 and moving to the farm north of Baker. It was there she took great pride in her yard, flowers and garden. She continued her love of reading and began crocheting. Janice and Gordon loved traveling to many places, Mexico, Alaska, Arizona and California to name a few. Even going south for a couple winters, living as snow birds in Arizona. They always traveled by car with Janice at the wheel.

In 2024, Gordon and Janice moved to town into the community they came to love and enjoy at Parkview Manor. They continued to love the dancing that had brought them together. They spent much of their time visiting friends at the manor and in the community. Taking nice relaxing drives out to the farm to check things out and reminiscing was a favorite pass time. Faith was important in Janice's life and was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Baker.

Janice is loved and will be missed by her husband, Gordon Steen; children, Pamela (Myron) Zastoupil of Dickinson, ND, Les Beard of Lake Ann, MI, Marilyn (Dave) Bell of Williston, ND, Marlys (Carl) Abelmann of Williston, ND, Joylynn Beattie of Gillette, WY, Kelly (Laura) Steen of Miles City, MT, Bryant (Betty) Steen of Baker, MT, and Terry (Cindy) Steen of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Michael (Jackie) Long, Trevor (Kayla) Long, Tyler (Meagan) Bell, Jennie Bell, Heather (Kyle) Hass, Hailey Abelmann, Emma (Payden) LaRouque, Alyx Bruce, Aubrey Beattie, Chase (Krystal) Beattie, Torin (Gwen) Beattie, Kevin (Tayvee) Steen, Chris (Megan) Steen, Robert (Priscella) Steen, Brice (Hannah) Steen, Becky (Ken) Steen, Briann Schell, Brandon Steen, Donny Steen, Shantel (Sandeep) Gonsalves, Raquelle Steen, and Katelyn Steen; 35 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and siblings, Ronald Lund of Rawlins, WY, and Marlene Pennington of Minot, ND.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Beard; parents, Lawrence and Lena; great-granddaughter, Maylin Bell; siblings, Vivian Pennington, Laverne Lund, Lawrence Lund Jr; and Donna Gaffaney.
