Janice passed away on June 4, 2025 at Fallon Medical in Baker.
Janice was born in Baker, MT on September 20, 1938 to Charlie and Lilly (Schell) Karch. She and her six siblings grew up on the family’s farm/ranch. Janice attended Tonquin Country School and later became a student at Baker High School graduating in 1956. After graduation she left for Omaha Baptist Bible Institute and unfortunately became very ill with the Asiatic Flu and had to come home to Baker after her first year. While back in Baker working at The Montana Bank as a teller she met Melvin Wolenetz. The two were later married on June 3, 1960 at the First Baptist Church. They began to build a family which included Doug, Kenneth, Randy and Jeff. With their love and dedication to agriculture they purchased Melvin’s grandparents, John “Jack” and Mini K’s farm/ranch southeast of Baker. They have continued to grow and expand the farm/ranch for the past 65 years and now it is being managed by son Randy.
Janice’s main focus in her life was providing for her family and community. She had an extremely large garden with endless supplies of food. Countless hours of canning and cooking with too many special dishes to name but her family and others enjoyed them all. Janice also tended chickens, about 500, and brought the eggs to town to sell. She was a woman who needed little and always put her family and friends' needs above her own. Janice had a special bond and friendship with her sisters, talking on phone daily, many trips and adventures were had.
Janice will be missed dearly by her sons, Kenneth (Shelli) Wolenetz of Fergus Falls, MN, Randy (Angie) Wolenetz of Baker, MT, Jeff (Kerri) Wolenetz of Billings, MT; brother, Arnold (Dorothy) Karch of Belgrade, MT; sisters, Bonnie Newberry of Baker, MT, Marilyn (Bob) Losing of Baker, MT, Sandie Henry of Miles City, MT, Shari (Dennis) Erickson; grandchildren, Steven, Riley, Kaylee, Charli, Alissa, Jonathon (fiancé Mackenzie), Cameron (Abbey), Sean, Marlo and Leslie; great grandchildren, Elyviah, Finley, Sophie, with one on the way; brother-in-law, Byron (Galina) Wolenetz of baker; sister-in-law, Marlene Karch.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Wolenetz; son, Doug Wolenetz; brother, Jim Karch; brothers-in-law, Norris Newberry, Kel Henry; sister-in-law, Darlene Wolenetz
