Jerome Roland was born on June 18, 1941, on the family farm 18 miles north of Amidon, North Dakota, to Sebastian Dukart and Mary (Geiger) Dukart. He grew up in the New England area and attended New England Public School, completing his education through the eighth grade. Jerome spent much of his life working with his hands and providing for his family. He worked as a farmhand and later for John Deere Implement. He was known for his strong work ethic and the pride he took in a job well done. On September 21, 1979, Jerome married Caroline Marie Runge at St. Joseph's Church. Together they made their home in Dickinson and built a life centered around family. Jerome enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with family and friends. He loved gardening, grilling, and fishing, and especially enjoyed making a large breakfast for family when everyone was together. He found great joy in going to the West River Community Center, where he liked walking with friends and sitting down for coffee and conversation.
Jerome is survived by his loving wife, Caroline; stepchildren, Sharon (Terry) Davis, Robert (Oreen) Runge, Lynn Runge, Sharlene (Byron) Fleck, Arlene (Dean) Schmitcke, and Darold (Wanda) Runge; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; siblings, John (Grace) Dukart, Sebastian Dukart, and MaryAnn Huffman; sister-in-law, Frances Dukart; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sebastian and Mary Dukart; paternal grandparents, Ludwig (Catherine) Dukart; maternal grandparents, John (Anna) Geiger; brothers, Henry (Helen) Dukart, George (Catherine Marie) Dukart, Casper (Angie) Dukart, Nickodemus Dukart, and Ludwig Dukart; and infant brother Phillip Dukart; sister-in-law, Bernadine Dukart; and several uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
