Linda passed away Friday, December 27, 2024 at Sanford Health in Bismarck.

Linda Schneider was born June 13, 1958 to Julius and Irene (Fischer) Bertsch. She grew up on a farm south of Burt, ND. She graduated from Mott High School in 1976. She then worked at the local ASC office until one day she met the love of her life, Geig Schneider. She often would tell the story of their first date; it was a blind date set up by a friend of theirs and from that moment on they knew they would be inseparable forever.

Geig and Linda were married November 28, 1980 and settled on a farm southwest of Hebron. They have lived there for the past 43 years and were blessed with 3 children. They grew small grains, raised cattle, pigs, chickens and buffalo. Linda helped Geig on the farm all her life. Her specialties were driving truck, raking hay, tending to her chickens, making her homemade meals, and taking any opportunity to bring joy to whomever she could. Most recently she loved painting her bales for folks to see as they drove by. They made the best team. Working together is what they both loved so very much and were fortunate enough to be able to do that with their children.

In February, mom had to do the hardest thing of her life, continue without Geig. We lost Geig suddenly and no one was prepared for that. She was heartbroken, but still continued to help others. It is what she was put here to do. We will always remember that about mom as we keep her dear in our hearts.

Linda had the biggest heart and she showed us that as her and Geig have been foster parents for the past 22 years. They truly loved each and every child that crossed their path. Linda would beam with joy whenever given the chance to talk about them with others. Her unconditional love was so substantial that in 2020 they adopted Nathen who was a foster child at the time.

Linda was very active in her local community. She was part of the Homemakers Club, Rolling Hills Snowmobile Club as well as a 4-H leader for many, many years. She was a member of The First Congregational Church and was very involved with her church as she was a Sunday School teacher for many years, a member of their church choir and The Guiding Light Society.

Preceding Linda in her death were her parents, Julius and Irene Bertsch, brothers Kim and Jim Bertsch and her loving husband Geig Schneider.

Linda is survived by her two sons, Tye (Kimberly) Schneider and Nathen all of Hebron; two daughters Lacey (Brandon) Koenig of Woodworth, Trish Schneider of Mott; foster kids: Anne, Dreamy & Breezy Morin, Teea & Ramon Torres, Annie Hutzenbiler and Chris Young, Skye and Sara Neubauer, Nikki Roman, Messie Dhandi, Amy Liedholm along with many, many others; grandkids: Cedar, Saige, Briggs & Bridger Koenig, Jameson Comer, Xavier, Aleeana, Annica, Izaiah, Arayah and Julian Torres, Novah Neubauer and Zoey Young along with many others and more to come.

Linda will live on in our hearts forever and we will continue to spread her warmth, kindness, and benevolence for as long as we are here with each other.

Moms Memories

Life is full of unexpected events that we just cannot explain. We trust God has a plan and even though our hearts are broken, we know mom’s heart is whole once again. She missed dad dearly. As much as we want her here with us, we find much comfort and peace knowing they are back together dancing and rejoicing in Heaven.

We would like to share some special memories we hold of mom with everyone and surely encourage you to do so as well with us amongst each other, today, tomorrow, and forever. When we think of mom, the first words that come to our minds are kindness, compassion, and hard working. Mom was the sweetest, most selfless person we knew who sure knew how to get the job done. She was always willing to lend a hand or help with an event, give a hug or cook a meal. You know darn well if you were ever over to visit, you never left hungry or without taking some fresh eggs.

Some of our “favorite” or most memorable memories with mom as kids are butchering chickens (on the hottest days of summer) and weeding the garden, corn and potato patches, ironically, also on the hottest days of summer. She loved her home-grown chickens and vegetables. The best part after a long, hot day of butchering chickens was looking forward to a delicious homemade supper of yes, you guessed it, chicken!

Mom was very active in 4-H. She made sure we did as many projects as possible.. every.. single.. year. Cramming them all into the week before the fair probably was not the best ‘learning’ experience, but hey that life lesson of “cramming” sure paid off in college! Thanks mom! Whether it was chaperoning a trip for us kids or taking care of the many foster kids at home, mom was always sacrificing to help others. She had a true passion to help and provide for all she could.

All jokes aside, mom truly was the best woman we knew, she is our hero. She was there whenever we needed her and taught us how to truly love one another in the best times and the worst of times. She instilled in us that kindness, compassion and working hard are some of the most important things in life.

So please, as we leave today, let us all remember to be kind and compassionate to one another and not be afraid to reach out a helping hand. We miss you more than you could ever imagine mom, but we are at peace knowing you are where you want to be, with dad. I bet he was the happiest man up in Heaven when he got to see his Fritz again. Please watch over us and hold each tight. Until we see you again, we love you.
