Lionel Lee Joe

Lionel Joe, 40, of Dickinson, ND, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2026 at his home in Dickinson.

Lionel Lee Joe was born on October 8, 1985, in Shiprock, New Mexico, to Elmer Lee and Vivian (Begay) Joe. He was raised in Shiprock, where he attended school before beginning a career in the oilfield. His work eventually brought him to North Dakota, where he made his home in Dickinson.

Lionel was known for his kind heart and generous spirit. He was a selfless, giving, and thoughtful man who was always willing to help others. His greatest joy in life was his family, especially his daughters, Mariah and Angela, whom he loved deeply.

Lionel enjoyed cooking and was well known for his pozole, enchilada and rice dishes. Cruising was one of Lionel's favorite past times and he could usually be found in one of his old-school Cadillacs. A talented artist, Lionel especially loved drawing and practicing calligraphy. He was also a faithful member of River Church in Dickinson.

Lionel will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Mariah Joe and Angela Joe; his mother, Vivian Joe; Siblings, Erick (Natalie) Joe; Shandiin Joe; Nicole (Nathan Garcia) Joe; Craig Kelewood; Deona (Truman) Tsasie; Wenonah (Dave) Joe; and many other relatives and friends who will cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Lee Joe.

Funeral services will be held at a later date through Desert View Funeral Home in Shiprock, New Mexico.
