A Funeral Mass for Ludwig Buresh, 89, of Dickinson, will be 10:00 am Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Brandon Wolf celebrating.  Burial will take place in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in New Hradec.

Visitation for Ludwig will be 4:30 – 6:00 pm Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at Stevenson Funeral Home with a rosary and vigil service being held at 6:00 pm.

Ludwig passed away December 12, 2023 at St. Luke’s Home in Dickinson.

Ludwig J. was born August 6, 1934 in Billings County, the son of Joseph and Mary (Steffan) Buresh. He grew up on the family farm in Dunn County and lost his father at a young age. When his mother remarried, he and his family moved to John Chorne’s farm.  Ludwig attended South Heart School through the eighth grade. His step-father passed away when he was 14 and he was needed to help work at home on the farm. He continued to farm throughout his lifetime. Ludwig met and married Cecilia Nolz on June 20, 1955 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in New Hradec. The couple was blessed with ten children who they raised on their dairy farm. Ludwig was very fond of his John Deere tractors. They retired and moved into Dickinson in 1990. Ludwig enjoyed fishing, golfing and playing cards. He was an avid sports fan, especially of the Vikings, Twins, and NDSU Bison. He was very active in the community, serving on numerous boards such as the Elevator Board, Farmers Union Station, Farmers Union Co-op, FHA Board, Southwest Water Board and he was a member of the Dickinson Elks Lodge, Dickinson Eagles and St. Anthony Club. 

Ludwig is survived by his sons, Jim (Lynette) of Geneseo, IL and Allen (Tessa Lininger) of Blaine, MN; daughters, Linda (Steve) Glasser of Dickinson, Karen (Dwight) Sabrosky of Bismarck, LaVonne (Nick) Reis of Dickinson, Anita (Dale) Twardoski of Bismarck, Leslie (Michael) Lee of Grassy Butte, Mary Buresh of Marana, AZ, Michelle (Christopher) Antenucci of Scarsdale, NY; 21 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren with one on the way; brother, Ray (Marlene) Chorne of South Heart; and sister, Janet (Henry) Frank of Dickinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Buresh, step-father, John Chorne; wife, Cecilia Buresh; son, Michael Buresh; grandson, Michael Reis; siblings, Tillie Havelka, Edith Jedlicka, Mary (Robert) Chorne, Vinc Chorne, Laudie Chorne, Elenore Brown, and Louise Gilbert.

In lieu of flowers, family suggest memorials be given to the Benedictine Sisters of Annunciation Monastery.
