Lud passed away Friday, April 17, 2015 at CHI St. Joseph’s Hospital, Dickinson, with his family by his side. Ludwig J. Dukart was born February 17, 1939 in Amidon, North Dakota, the son of Sebastian and Mary (Geiger) Dukart. He grew up and attended country school near Amidon. Later, his family moved to New England and Lud lived there until he took a job in Dickinson for KD Thompson as a well driller. It was during this time that he met Frances Binstock. Lud and Frances were united in marriage on August 16, 1962 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dickinson. Together, the couple made their home in Dickinson and this is where they raised their four children: Scott, Doug, Ronda and Keith. Lud worked for F & J Construction for 27 years before going to work at Tooz Construction and later Northern Improvement. He retired at age 59 due to health. Lud could often be found tinkering in his garage, working on projects that family and friends would bring to fix or build, working in the yard, or the large garden he planted every year. He enjoyed giving his family and friends fresh vegetables and canning the produce from his garden. Lud enjoyed cooking, making homemade sausage, noodles, cheese buttons and wine. If he wasn’t in the kitchen or outside, Lud spent time watching old westerns and Wheel of Fortune. In his younger days, Lud enjoyed spending time outdoors camping and fishing. His family and friends meant the world to him and spending time with them brought him great joy. Lud is survived by his wife, Frances of Dickinson; sons, Doug and Keith (Shelly Becker), all of Bismarck; daughter, Ronda Logan (Gary Sedlacek), of Dickinson; four grandchildren, Derek (Kelly), Dustin(Rachel), Devin, Logan all of Dickinson and Luke Dukart of Bismarck; two great-granddaughters, Arriauna and Kimber, Logan both of Dickinson; brothers, John (Grace), Jerome (Caroline), and Seb (Bernie), all of Dickinson, and George (Betty) of Denver, CO; sister, Mary Ann (Tom) Hoffman of Spearfish, SD; and sister-in-law, Helen Dukart of Beulah. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sebastian and Mary Dukart; father and mother-in-law, Frank and Katherine Binstock; son, Scott; son-in-law, Pat Logan, Jr. ; great-grandson, Reiker Logan; and brothers, Phillip, Nick, Casper, and Henry.
