Mavis passed away April 25, 2026, at St. Benedict's Nursing Home in Dickinson.

Mavis Dinette was born on June 12, 1934, in New Salem, North Dakota, to Herbert and Lucy (Heid) Klusmann. She was raised on the family farm and graduated from New Salem High School. Mavis went on to attend college in Jamestown, where she studied teaching for a year before beginning her first year of teaching at a country school near New England. During that time, she met the love of her life, Henry Zahn. The two were united in marriage at Peace Church in New Salem and made their home in New England, where they built a life together and raised their family on the farm. To this union, two sons were born, Henry and Tom.

Mavis was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was deeply involved in her church and community-teaching Sunday school, participating in church choir, ladies aid, quilting with church women, and being active in local women's clubs. She found joy in the simple, meaningful things in life: gardening, baking, sewing, knitting, reading, and visiting with friends. She also loved spending her time shopping.

Above all, Mavis cherished her family. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending their activities, and supporting them in every way she could.

Mavis is survived by her son, Tom Zahn; grandchildren, Jason Zahn, Jessie Zahn, and Josie (Pat) Schaefer; great-grandchildren, Faith Zahn, Channing Huether, Skye Henderson, Chase Henderson, Collin Cunningham, and Zachary Herold; great-great-granddaughter, Maevry Wilmer; daughter-in-law, Wendy Zahn; sister, Linda Lee.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry Zahn; son, Henry Zahn III; sister, Marianne Kinnischtzke.
