Milbert passed away Sunday, June 8, 2025 at Sanford Hospital in Bismarck.
Milbert Roy was born December 19, 1943, the son of George and Alvina (Fried) Allerdings at Elizabeth Hospital (now Fallon Medical Complex) in Baker, MT. He attended Ehret School through the sixth grade, junior high at Plevna Jr. High and graduated from Plevna High School in 1962. Milbert continued to work on the family ranch 12.5 miles southwest of Baker. On October 4, 1968, Milbert married Betty Bertsch at First Baptist Church in Baker. Together they lived on the family ranch where they were blessed to raise three wonderful daughters, Sheryl Kay, Sheila Ann and Shandra Lee. Milbert and Betty farmed and ranched with his brother Ray (Bonnie) from 1968-2010, at which time they retired and moved to Dickinson to be closer to family. Milbert took great pride in the job he performed for others. He always loved a 'good horse' and he loved working with cattle and riding his horses. His ranch was his pride and joy and he always had it in a beautiful state. Fencing was a top priority and he received many comments on how good his fences were. Milbert had a gifted knack for looking at things that intrigued him, then go home and create it into a quality piece of ranch equipment. He completed feed bunks, calf shelters, warmers and sleds. With his love of welding he also made truck hay racks, pipe corrals and gates, trailer beds and more. Milbert was a true rancher at heart. Milbert worked as a farm and ranch hand for Crescent Cross Ranch, he seeded and mowed oilfield locations and right of ways for TNT Diversified, mowed the city parks for Dickinson Parks & Rec, and did maintenance and vehicle cleaning for Stevenson Funeral Home. He was a member of Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church of Plevna, MT, where he served as Trustee, member of the Church board, an usher and member of the cemetery board. He was also active with the R-Calf, National Rifle Association and the American Quarter Horse Association. Milbert was so used to working year round that he had to find something to do after he retired, especially during the winter months, so he started a hobby of cutting out and painting silhouettes of various western designs and sizes. He also learned to weld horseshoes together to make crosses, Christmas trees and many other designs. Knowing Milbert was a behind the scenes kind of guy, he surprised family by participating in vendor events and online, to "show off" his new hobby/talent. He had a reason to be proud as he did wonderful work and sold many items plus made each of his daughters and granddaughters several items. Milbert will be greatly missed.
Milbert is survived by his daughters, Sheryl Driscoll of Chanhassen, MN, Sheila (Jason) Dutke of Dickinson, Shandra Allerdings of Rapid City, SD; former son-in-law, Scott Henrichs of Rapid City, SD; granddaughters, Madison Marie (Ryan) Smith, Abbey Mae and Emily Elyse Dutke; great-grandson, Hudson Roy Smith; brother, Ray (Bonnie) of Dickinson; brother/sisters-in-law, Bev Schell of Baker, Stan (Teddie) Brannin of AZ and Charlotte Allerdings of Miles City; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
