Mildred Mae Molstad passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 in Baker.

Millie was born on June 5, 1932, the daughter of David and Sarah (Scherer) Wallace.  Millie was born in Pollock, South Dakota and lived her early years in both South Dakota and Minnesota. Eventually Millie’s family settled in Miles City, Montana where she completed her schooling. After high school, Millie worked as a telephone switchboard operator in Miles City. Millie then met Dick Molstad of Baker, Montana and they were married February 14, 1954. To this union two children were born, Linda and David. After a few years working on road construction projects in North Central Montana, they returned to raise their children and made Baker their home. Millie has lived all 65 years of her adult life in Baker.  Millie’s greatest pleasure in life was being a wife, mother, and grandmother.  Before her husband Dick passed away in 2014, they were blessed with 60 years of marriage. Millie cherished every opportunity to be with her family and friends.

Millie was known for making sure that everyone was well fed. Her cinnamon and caramel rolls are well remembered. Millie also had a passion for making beautiful crocheted rugs, and caring for her many pets. In retirement, Dick and Millie enjoyed traveling in their motorhome. This included trips throughout the Western States and Alaska. During her years in Baker, Millie was a lifelong member of the Baker Community Church.  She also enjoyed her involvement in numerous social groups.

In the last few years of her life, with the availability of in-home care services, Millie had an extended opportunity to remain in the familiarity of her home, which she treasured.  As her health declined, she moved to assisted living, followed by a brief stay in long term care, both in Baker. After struggling with the trauma from a fall, Millie passed away on January 29, 2019 at Fallon Medical Complex.

Survivors include her daughter Linda (Roy) Johnson of Bozeman, MT, son David (Cheryl) Molstad of Silverton, OR, 5 grandchildren, Christopher and Chad Johnson, Caleb, Rachel (Víctor), and Aaron Molstad, and a great grandson, Finn Johnson.  Millie is also survived by her two brothers; Frank and Walter Wallace.
