Nellie Rost

Funeral Service for Nellie Rost, 99, of Marmarth, ND will take place at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 4, 2025 at Stevenson Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date at Rost Family Farm in Marmarth. For those unable to attend service will be livestreamed at stevensonfuneralhome.com.

Nellie passed away on November 22, 2025 at Fallon Medical Complex.

Nellie Elizabeth Rost, a beloved mother, grandma, sister, and friend, passed away on November 22, 2025, at the age of 99. Born on May 3, 1926, in Fallon County, Montana, Nellie embraced life with an open heart and a spirit of generosity that touched everyone she met.

 Nellie grew up attending Gregorson Country School and graduated from Baker High School in 1944. In 1946, she met and married Murril (Tubby) Rost in Wibaux, and together they nurtured a loving family while living in various places, including Bozeman, Ismay, Balentine, Plevna, and Baker. In 1970, they settled in Marmarth, North Dakota, where they purchased a farm.

 For many years, Nellie managed the Palm Tavern in Marmarth, where her warm smile and kind heart welcomed all who entered. After Tubby's passing in 1997, Nellie continued to live on the farm, diligently pursuing her passions for animals, gardening, fishing and milking cows well into her eighties and early nineties. Her love for playing cards was matched only by her adoration for her 6 children, 11 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren. 

Nellie's life was characterized by her unwavering kindness and her desire to help others in need. She was a true community pillar, always ready to lend a helping hand. Nellie Rost will be missed dearly, but her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. 

She is survived by her daughters, Kay (Sonny) Hanson and Anna Crawford; daughter-in-law, Trish Rost; sons, Roddy (Maxine) Rost and Casey (Jean) Rost; grandchildren, Carmen (Joe) Pennington, Roddy (Juanita) Rost, Roy (Melissa) Rost, Jay (Linda) Rost, Jamie Jo (Tim) Robinson, Bill (Desi) Rost, Clyde (Tina) Crawford, Lando Crawford, Angie (Scott) Rabbitt, Trisha (Willie) Schweiger, Tina Rost and her sister, Anna Mae Wang. 

Nellie was preceded in death by: her husband Murril "Tubby" Rost; sons, Billy and Scott Rost; grandson, Jeremy Rost, great granddaughter, Katelynn Rost; great grandson Will Rost; son-in-law, Dave Crawford; siblings, Arthur (Bud) MacKay, Alfred (Al) MacKay, Mary (Babe) Billingsly and Ella Schultz.
