Funeral Mass for Peter Leiss, 92, of Dickinson will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 14, 2012, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Keith Streifel celebrating. Military rites will be presented by the Dickinson Honor Guard. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Dickinson.


Visitation for Peter will be from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Stevenson Funeral Home, with a Rosary and Vigil Service at 8:00 p.m.


On Saturday, June 9, 2012 Pete was carried to heaven on the wings of angels.


Peter Martin Leiss was born July 30, 1919 in Hirschville, ND, the youngest of eight children born to Sebastian and Maria (Freer) Leiss. He grew up on the family farm and attended Dunn County country schools. After school, Peter continued to work on the family farm before entering into the United States Army on May 23, 1942. He served in Europe, Africa and the Middle East during WWII as a Gunner and was awarded the Bronze Star. After being honorably discharged on September 22, 1945, Peter returned to Dickinson. On October 25, 1948, Pete and Rose Miller were united in marriage at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dickinson. The couple lived on the farm for a few years before moving to Dickinson in 1952. Peter worked at Hamann’s Livestock for a short time before being employed with Farmers Union Oil Company for 29 years in the Car Care Center. After retiring in 1981, he continued to farm in his spare time. Peter enjoyed being home, reminiscing of times past, and looked forward to spending time with his children and grandchildren. Peter was a member of the St. Anthony Club, St. Pius Verien, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.


Peter is survived by his wife, Rose, of Dickinson; nine children, Connie (Doug) Lefor of Mandan, Carol Lippert of Mandan, Shirley (Dennis Nagel) Thomas of Bismarck, Kathy (Guy) Mischel of Dickinson, Marilyn (Dean) Burwick of Dickinson, Jeanette (Jack Bugge) Leiss of Bismarck, Curt (Shauna) Leiss of Portland, Oregon, Mary Jane Leiss of Dickinson, and Nancy (Steve) Wright of Houston, Texas; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.


He was preceded in death by one daughter, Diane Pletan, his parents, Sebastian and Maria; three brothers; four sisters; and one son-in-law, John Lippert.
