Ekalaka

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, at the Church of Hank Williams. In honor of Rex's lifelong love for classic vehicles, a car parade will take place at noon. The community is encouraged to bring their own vehicles and participate in the procession.

Rex McCord, 80, of Ekalaka, passed away peacefully at his home on April 7, 2026.

Born May 1, 1945, in Baker, Montana, to Roy and Pearl (Cline) McCord, Rex lived in Ekalaka before moving to Oregon, where he graduated from high school in Grants Pass.

He served in the United States military during the Vietnam War (1968-1970). It was in Oregon that he met and married Lynn Sauer. A true craftsman, Rex built a log cabin for his family using logs he cut himself. In 2008, he returned to his roots in Ekalaka.

Rex had a passion for antique cars and was a constant seeker of "hidden gems," particularly through Facebook Marketplace. He continued to log through his retirement, possessed a legendary sweet tooth, and enjoyed getting a group together to prairie dog hunt.

A dedicated member of his community, Rex served on the Ekalaka Town Council and was a member of the VFW. He was rarely seen without his loyal dog, Rowdy.

Rex is survived by his daughter, Teri Skaggs; grandchildren, Jennifer McCord, Taylor Skaggs, and Tim Depew; great-grandchildren, Lynde, Mary, and Gwendolyn; brothers, Duane (Sandy) McCord and Mickey (Alvina) McCord; and his special companion, Diane Bronson. He is also survived by his cousin, Lauren Reynolds, who provided cherished friendship and support during the final years of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lynn McCord; and his son, Jason McCord.
