Bud went to greener pastures to join his family on Friday, May 26, 2023.

He was born January 21, 1937 in Dickinson ND to Margaret (Gunkel) and Melvin Griffin.

Bud went all 12 years of school in Belfield. He became a Cowboy during the summer years, at a very young age Melvin took Raymond and Bud with him to the Findahl Bottom. He taught them to break and ride colts.

When he graduated from high school he started helping at home on the ranch. Then he rodeoed and went to work on various ranches in the badlands.

June 20, 1964 he married Laura Pelissier in Medora.  We were blessed with 3 beautiful children and to a life-long marriage of 59 years on June 20th.

After he married Laura they moved to Billings, MT. He worked at the sales barn for a  couple years. After our son Dallas was born, we moved to Miles City, MT where he worked for a feed company. We were in Miles a couple years, then moved to ND to ranch.

We bought Jack Connell’s herd when he retired, and moved them horse back to a ranch we leased south of Sentinel Butte. We moved them through the Theodore Roosevelt National Park and south of Medora to Al Wosepkas ranch leased by Maynard & Inez Fritz. We corralled and fed them overnight. The next day we moved them across country to their new home at the Milo Clauson Ranch. We were there 3 years then we moved them to the Jerry Osterhout ranch west of Medora for six years. Daughters Robin and Julene were born during that time.

In 1977 we bought the Nunn ranch located 25 miles south of Medora and trailed our cattle there. We spent many happy years on that ranch and sold it in 2005.

We bought 160 acres west of Dickinson and put up a new home, and still live here to date.

Bud is survived by his wife Laura and two children, Robin and Julene and one granddaughter Mirya (Erik) Laajala and four great grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Dallas and his brother Raymond and a sister Glenda.

A special thank you to Bud’s health care team.
