Rolland "Rollie" Topp was born to Vernon and Leona (Greger) Topp on July 23, 1941, in New Rockford, ND. He attended first through fifth grade at Haven Township in a one room schoolhouse in Rural Grace City, ND. Rollie finished the rest of his schooling in Grace City graduating from Grace City High School in 1960. He continued his education at North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, ND.
Rollie took his passion for automobiles and made it his way of life. During his college years, he studied auto mechanics in Wahpeton, then went on to work in Aberdeen, SD and Carrington, ND for a short time. Rollie married Sandra (Sandy) Nicolson on June 11, 1962, in Carrington, ND. Together they raised their children Scott and Kaye. In 1969 they relocated to Great Falls, MT, where Rollie began a career utilizing his mechanical skills in a variety of businesses. In Great Falls this culminated in his ownership of Ron's Country Club Standard Station and 2 D's Auto Electrical Shop. Sandy passed away on May 10, 1983.
Rollie married Deanna (Dee Dee) Hanratty in Great Falls on October 18, 1986. He moved to Bozeman in 1987, and in 2001 they relocated to Baker, MT. In 2007, they decided to move to Billings, MT, where Rollie worked as Parts Manager at Metra RV until his ultimate retirement in 2013.
Rollie was involved in 4-H, JC's and baseball in Grace City and Carrington, ND. He had many hobbies which included baseball and softball, which he played until he was 50 yrs old. Rollie loved the outdoors and enjoyed swimming, fishing, camping, hunting, four-wheeling, training and riding horses, and ski-joring. He taught Hunter's Safety in Bozeman for many years.
He was an active member of the Classic Cruisers Car Club in Baker and Yellowstone Roaring 20's Auto Club in Billings, MT. It was here he could share his love of his 1967 GTO and other vehicles in car shows.
Rollie is loved and will be missed by his best friend and wife of 39 years, Deanna (Dee Dee); son, Scott (Kristi) Topp; daughters, Kaye Topp, Amy Eldridge, Brandy Griffith; grandchildren, Matt, Jake, Sean, Kelli, Dakotah, Kiaunah, Bailey, Aiden; great grandchildren, Chase, Lilly, Mikey, Brandin, Shelbey, Amrie, Brylee, Ryder, Kannon; sister, Janice Topp; mother-in-law, Jean Hanratty; sisters-in-law, Donna Bakken, Arleen Topp, Bobbi Hanratty; brothers-in-law, Ralph Nicolson, Dean Walker; numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded by his first wife, Sandra (Sandy); parents, Vernon and Leona; father-in-law, Walt Hanratty; grandson, Bailey Roach; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Wanda Topp; brothers-in-law, Donald Zakutansky, Greg Bakken; sisters-in-law, Joanne Nicolson and Glenda Bauer.
