Funeral services for Ronald "Ronnie" Shepherd, 95, of Baker, will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, February 7, 2026 at the American Lutheran Church in Baker with Don Buerkle officiating.
Prayer Service for Ronnie will be 5:00 pm Friday, February 6, 2026 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker.

Ronald "Ronnie" Shepherd, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and community leader, who departed this life on January 27, 2026. He was a man of unwavering dedication, who touched the hearts of all who knew him, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, service, and love.
Ronnie was born and raised in Ollie, where he received his early education before completing his schooling and graduating from Baker. On May 27, 1951, he married the love of his life, Ramona Phebus, after persistently proving his devotion by asking her three times. His commitment to serving others was evident when he enlisted in the United States Army, honoring his country during the Korean Conflict from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1954.
After returning to Baker, Ronnie and Ramona continued their pursuit of knowledge together at the School of Mines in South Dakota. His entrepreneurial spirit soon flourished as he and his brothers purchased mobile pellet machines, contributing to the local economy while also working for MDU as a compressor operator. Furthermore, he established a freight business that connected communities across Miles City and Ekalaka by transporting essential goods.
Ronnie's passion for farming led him to acquire land stretching from Ollie to Carter County, fulfilling a dream he held throughout his life. His dedication to his community was profound; he was encouraged to run for Mayor of Baker, a position he held with pride during two terms, followed by his election to the County Commission, where he served for twelve years. His commitment to service extended to various community boards, working tirelessly for the betterment of those around him.
As a lifelong member of the American Lutheran Church in Baker, Ronnie's faith was central to his life. He served as President of the Church Council for several years, solidifying his role as a leader in both spiritual and community matters. Ronnie cherished his family above all, finding great joy in gathering together, especially when sharing stories of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His and Ramona's legacy of inclusion and compassion had a lasting impact on many, notably on those like "Yogi" Eugene Bird.
Ronnie a is survived by his children, Lana (Dan) Buerkle of Plevna, Lance (Jackie) Shepherd of Baker, and Chad (Christina) Shepherd of Ekalaka; grandchildren, Bradn (Natasha) Buerkle, Bryan (Karen) Buerkle, Britt (Nicole) Buerkle, Brook (Michael) Newell, Selma Shepherd, Lane (Caroline) Shepherd, Kendall Shepherd, Danica Shepherd, Allie Shepherd, and Landry Shepherd; 13 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and wife Ramona; siblings, Fern, Buck and Dale.
Memorials may be made to the American Lutheran Church, Baker, MT to continue his commitment to his faith community.
