Rose C. Schaeffer Rotering, 83, of Dickinson, formerly of Amidon, died Sunday, December 29, 2002, at Merit Care Medical Center in Fargo after a six-month illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a. m. Saturday, January 4, 2003 at Queen of Peace Church, Dickinson, The Reverend Jim Ryan celebrating. Visitation and rosary will be Friday, January 3, 2003, 7:00 p. m. at Price-Murphy Funeral Home. There will also be visitation at the church for one hour before the service. Interment will be at St. Patrick?s Cemetery in Dickinson. Pallbearers will be Arnold Rotering, Alvin Rotering, Vince and Sally Dolechek, Kent and Diane Mortenson, and Olie and Cecelia Golberg. Special music will be provided by Doug Murphy and Leila Heil, soloist. Rose was born March 30, 1919, to Liberatus and Celestina (Heck) Schaeffer at Hirschville, ND. That year the family moved to a farm near Gladstone, ND. , where they lived until moving to a farm in Peacefull Valley Township in Slope County in 1925. She attended schools in Gladstone, Peaceful Valley Township and St. Mary?s in New England. She spent most of her youth with her parents on their farm and was employed by the N. Y. A. for two years. She married Robert H. Rotering on Nov. 6th 1945 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Amidon, ND. They owned and operated Grand View Stock Farm, the cattle and grain farm homesteaded by Robert?s parents, Robert and Mary (Schaffner) Rotering in 1907. Robert and Rose retired to Dickinson but remained active with the Amidon community. Rose was a long-time member of Sts. Peter and Paul and was active in the church choir, Women?s Alter Guild, 4-H, Get-Together Homemaker?s Club, Amidon Senior Citizens? group and the Slope County Council on Aging. She enjoyed gardening, homemaking, refinishing antique furniture, entertaining and traveling. She loved socializing and had many friends. Rose is survived by: one son and five daughters: C. Renee Kadrmas of Fargo, Linda H. Rotering, Ph. D. , Dickinson, Robert H. Rotering Jr. MD and Susan Rotering, Wappingers Falls, NY, Elaine Smith Westerlund and son-in-law Paul of Eden Prairie, MN, Lori Rotering, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and Linelle McAndrews, Fargo; ten grandchildren: Jill Kadrmas and Todd Kadrmas, Robert H. III, Joy Rose, Jessie Robert and Summer Joy Rotering, Stephanie and Stacey Smith, and Laurel and Elex McAndrews. She is also survived by two sisters, Bertha Obrigewitch, Belfield and Ida E. Schaeffer, Dickinson, two sisters-in law, Esther Currie, Yakima, WA, and Ann Schaeffer, Belfield and many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends who will miss her company and caring. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 1994, her parents, four brothers, one who died in infancy, Nicodemus, Joseph, and Phillip Schaeffer, and two sisters, Monica Olds and Mary Ann Rau.
