Sandy passed to eternal life on November 25, 2023.
Sandra Mae Malkowski was born on February 16, 1964 in Baker, Montana to Raymond and Elsie (Arnell) Malkowski. Her early life included homes in Belfield, McClusky, and Turtle Lake, ND, until she returned to Belfield in junior high and graduated from Belfield High School. She then earned an associate degree from Dickinson State College.
At Dickinson State College, she met Jim Deichert, whom she married July 24, 1992. They made their home in Dickinson where she and Jim reared their children, Kelsey and Austin. Concurrently, her employment included Pump Systems and then, for the past 32 years, Stark County, both in the Sheriff’s Department and the States Attorney’s Office.
Sandy was widely known as a friendly, smiling, outgoing, quick-witted woman. Her passions included sports (volleyball), cards/games, hosting family and guests, and spending time at the lake. Sandy also enjoyed traveling with her family and took many memorable trips throughout the US and Europe. Don’t underestimate her treasure hunts at garage sales and her most recent and quickly-growing joy, grandson Jaxon. She and her profound impact will be sorely missed.
Sandy is survived by her husband, Jim; daughter, Kelsey and grandson, Jaxon; son Austin; sister Sheila (Bob) Hlibichuk, all of Dickinson; brother Bryan (Jill) of Thornton, CO; and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in law as well as nieces and nephews.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents; nephew, Dustin Hlibichuk; father-in-law, Harry Deichert; mother-in-law Mary Ann Deichert; and sister-in-law Cindy Deichert.
