Funeral Services for Sylvia ?Jane? Logan, 69, of Ekalaka, MT, will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2008 in the Chapel of Stevenson Funeral Home in Ekalaka, MT with Loyd Townsend officiating. Interment will be at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, in the family lot in the Fairview Cemetery at Camp Crook, SD. Visitation will be 12 noon to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 1, 2008 at Stevenson Funeral in Ekalaka, and will continue from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday. Jane passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at Fallon Medical Complex in Baker, MT. Sylvia Jane Logan was born a daughter of Ethan and Mary Jane (Keaton) Carter at her parent?s ranch in the Long Pines of Carter County, MT on May 23, 1938. Jane grew up on her parent?s ranch in rural Carter County. She graduated from Carter County High School in Ekalaka, MT. After graduation, Jane attended Black Hills State College in Spearfish, SD. In 1956, Jane met and married Eugene Rice. To this union, Janet and David were born. Jane and Eugene lived in Marmarth, ND and Broadus, MT, where Jane worked as a waitress. In 1959, Jane met Richard Leon Brady. To this union, Shannon was born. Jane and Richard ranched in the Long Pines. Jane had a desire to become a school teacher. She was offered a job teaching at the Askin Country School in rural Carter County. In 1970, Jane and her family moved to Rapid City, SD and eventually to Spearfish. At age 32, Jane returned to Black Hills State where she obtained her BS degree in Elementary Education in 1973. Her first year, Jane taught school in Rosebud, SD on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Jane and her family then moved back to Carter County where she taught at various country schools. In 1978, Jane became the Carter County Superintendent of Schools. She held that position until the fall of 1980. Jane became reacquainted with Dr. Keith Logan, a Belle Fourche Chiropractor. Jane had known Keith since a ranch accident as a teenager. The two were married on September 30, 1980, in Belle Fourche, SD. Jane and Keith made their home in Belle Fourche. After Keith?s death in 1987, Jane moved to Ekalaka, where she took care of her mother, Mary. After Mary entered Dahl Memorial Nursing Home, Jane continued to visit her daily, where she read to her mother as well as other residents. Jane had a love for crafting with her hands. She loved quilting, crocheting, bead works, jewelry, and braiding leather to mention a few. If it was crafted by hands, Jane had done it! Jane helped to organize several quilt shows in Ekalaka. Jane enjoyed playing cards and bingo. She also helped with several spelling bees and served as an Election Judge for several years. Jane was a member of the Ekalaka Red Hat Society, The Order of the Eastern Star, the South Dakota Chiropractic Auxiliary and the Beaver Creek Rendezvous for physically challenged hunters. Jane is survived by her three children, Janet (Leonard) Livingston, David Rice and Shannon (Tina) Brady, all of Ekalaka, MT; her sister, Dorothy Stieg, Baker, MT; 5 grandchildren, Deanna Brown, Las Vegas, NV, Tawnee (Robert) Brunner, Billings, MT, Stefan Livingston, Bozeman, MT, Alan Livingston, Douglas, WY and Tiffany Brady, WI; 2 nieces, Stefeni (Brad) Freese, and their children, Dustin and Dylan, Sydni (Anthony) Tangaro and their children, Domanic and Nathan and 1 nephew, Aaron (Andrea) Stieg. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ethan and Mary, her husband, Keith, 4 grandchildren, Allison Rene Parks, Ethan James Parks, Dustin Cheyne Parks and Adam Scott Parks, and her brother-in-law Wilfred Stieg. Arrangements are under the direction of Stevenson Funeral Home of Ekalaka, MT
