Thomas "Tom" Tuhy

Funeral Mass for Thomas "Tom" Tuhy, 72 of Killdeer will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Killdeer with Rev. Joseph Evinger celebrating. Burial will follow at the Peace Lutheran Cemetery in Dunn Center.

Visitation for Tom will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson, with a rosary and vigil service at 6:00 pm.

Tom passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

Thomas Tuhy was born on August 22, 1954, in Dickinson, North Dakota, to George and Gertrude (Sadowsky) Tuhy. He spent his early years in South Heart before his family moved to a ranch near Dunn Center in 1965. He attended school in Dunn Center and later graduated from Killdeer High School in 1972. Following high school, Tom attended NDSU before returning home to Dunn Center to help on the family farm. For a couple of years, he spent his summers working in North Dakota and his winters in Florida working on a ranch with his brother, Dan.

Tom eventually returned to the area and worked in the oil field for several years. It was during this time that he married Suzi Larsen on October 15, 1982. Together, Tom and Suzi began building a life, raising their family and growing their ranch. They eventually made their home on their ranch north of Dunn Center, where Tom was happiest. Along with ranching, during the early years, he also did custom farming and trucking.

Tom was a cowboy through and through. Ranching was his way of life. He appreciated good horses and good dogs and especially enjoyed branding, team roping, and the camaraderie that came with working alongside neighbors and friends. He team roped for a number of years and never passed up the opportunity for a good visit. Tom loved the Badlands and was proud of the country he called home.

Tom loved to drive anything that went fast, including snowmobiles, motorcycles, boats, and pickups. He didn't especially care for the water at the lake, but his family loved it. So he took them as often as he could. He did enjoy cruising Lake Sakakawea and dumping the kids off the tube. As the years went on, his grandchildren became one of the greatest joys in his life. Tom liked to joke that his favorite things were horses, his grandkids, and a good Manhattan, in that order, though those who knew him knew just how much his family meant to him.

Tom believed strongly in giving back to the community and organizations that were important to him. Over the years, he served on the Cenex board and was involved with the Dunn County Mounted Rangers, North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame, and Stockmen's Association. He was also a proud member of the NRA, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and the North Dakota Rodeo Association.

Faith was an important part of Tom's life and remained a source of strength throughout the years. He was a man who knew what he believed and wasn't afraid to say it. Tom saw things in black and white, and those around him rarely had to wonder where he stood. Beneath that straightforward nature was a man who loved to joke and tease and never took himself too seriously. He often called himself a "kid at heart," a description that stayed true throughout his life. He made every day jobs on the ranch fun for his kids, simply by making silly faces and waving as they passed each other in the hay field.

Above all, Tom treasured the life he built on the ranch, the friendships he made along the way, and the time spent surrounded by his family, horses, dogs, neighbors, and the Badlands he loved.

Tom is survived by his wife, Suzi; his children, Katie (Shawn) Donahey, Karolyn (Drew) Allen, Sean (Tess) Tuhy; his grandchildren, Nevada, Coy and Haze Donahey, Bridger Allen and Gemma Tuhy; his faithful dog, Kip; his siblings, Dan (Nancy) Tuhy, Jane Perdue, Mary (Bob) Wheeling, Bob (Gay) Tuhy and Ann (Kim) Knutson. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Cheryl Krieger and Sandi (Tom) Ribb; brothers-in-law, Jim Wallace and Bob (Cathy) Larsen; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Gertrude Tuhy, his brother-in-law, Art Perdue and Fred Krieger, his mother and father in-law, Harry & Sydney Larsen, and his sister-in-law Linda Wallace.

Tom wore many hats throughout his life, but the one that fit him best was that of a cowboy.

In lieu of flowers Tom's family will donate all memorials to local organizations and charities.
