Funeral Service for Tom Sampson, 79, of Baker will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 1 at the American Lutheran Church with Don Buerkle and Robin Menger officiating. Burial will take place at Bonnievale Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to service. 

Thomas “Tom” Sampson, 79, of Baker passed away on February 17, 2024 at St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings with his family by his side. 

Tom was born on July 22, 1944 in Glendive, MT to Floyd and Florence (Knapp) Sampson. He attended school in Glendive, graduating in 1962 from Dawson County High School. While in high school Tom worked various jobs and after graduation chose to serve in the National Guard. He proudly served for eight years. During this time he worked at Little Chief/Husky Station then Northwest Protective Coating both in Glendive. 

Tom met the love of his life, Rose Maier and the two were married on March 25, 1967. Their family grew to include a son Jeff in 1969 and then a daughter Jodi in 1971. Tom and Rose made the decision to move their family to Baker, MT in 1979 with Dennis Oilfield.  Later he would go on to work for Mitchells Oilfield where he operated the picker and was a dispatcher until he retired in 2013. He was a member of the American Lutheran Church. 

Tom had many hobbies many in which involved classic cars and racing.  He was a proud and active member of Classic Cruisers Car Club. Through this club Tom and Rose developed lifelong friendships with other classic car enthusiast across the country. Tom had a passion for working on classic cars, sharing the experience with his son and many others. Rose had a 1961 Chevy in her younger years that was sold and Tom found it 24 years later and restored it. In 2005, they took this car and went on a Road Rally putting on 2000 miles (with no air conditioner or radio).  He and Rose also enjoyed traveling to watch drag racing at many different venues. Tom’s greatest pride was his family and was never happier than when he could support his two grandsons, Cody and Jake, in their many sporting events. 

Tom was a quiet, hardworking family man who will be greatly missed by his wife of almost 57 years, Rose; son, Jeff Sampson of Bismarck, ND; daughter, Jodi (Brian) Henderson of Lewistown, MT; grandsons Cody Henderson of Daytona Beach, FL, Jake Henderson of Lewistown, MT; brothers, Ken Sampson of Kalispell, MT, Sister in Law Gloria (Denny) Zmuda of Maumee, OH; Brother in Law, Mike (Cindy) Maier of Rapid City, SD; numerous cousins, nephews, nieces.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Florence; brother, Howard (Gwen) Sampson; father-in-law, Rueben “Pete” Maier; mother-in-law, Ella Loewen Maier.
