Vergil Gebhardt

Vergil Gebhardt, 94, of Livingston, Montana, passed away Sunday, August 23, 2020, at Jacobson Memorial Hospital in Elgin, North Dakota. He spent most of his later years in Livingston, Montana, and most recently in Marion Manor Health Care Center in Glen Ullin, North Dakota.

Vergil was born March 20, 1926, to Carl and Nannie (Playle) Gebhardt in Leighton, Iowa. He attended school in Savage, Montana. On November 17, 1948, he married Elsie Mae Jimison in Glendive, Montana. They welcomed two children Margie and Marvin to make their family complete. They moved around ranching and working road construction for several years and eventually ended up in Livingston in a house on Willow Creek Road.

His lifetime hobbies were centered around livestock and his family. He spent several hours on the back of a horse working cattle and pleasure riding. His favorite horse was Sage but he also had donkeys, dogs, cats, chickens and cows.

Vergil and Elsie’s house was a coffee stop for many friends and relatives and the house was always filled with the aroma of fresh baked goodies to go with a bottomless coffee pot. Many great hours of fellowship and card games were enjoyed by all that came to their table.

Vergil’s family and friends meant everything to him.

Vergil was preceded in death by his wife Elsie, his granddaughter Jamie Wheatley, and his great granddaughter Emily Alexander.

He is survived by his daughter Margi Wheatley(Jim) of Hereford , Arizona; his son Marvin Gebhardt(Tami) of Noxon, Montana; his brother Vern Gebhardt (Sharon) of Laurel, Montana; grandchildren AJ (April) Gebhardt of Wibaux, Montana, Dan Gebhardt of Hebron, North Dakota, Nicole (Gene) Alexander of Noxon, Montana and Jill (Mark) Cherrick of Huachue City , Arizona; great grandchildren Vallerie Gebhardt, Savannah Gebhardt, Lance Gebhardt, Logan Gebhardt, Cashton Gebhardt, and Brad Alexander.

He will be buried in a small peaceful cemetery in Noxon, Montana in a private ceremony.
