Vernon R. Weiler

Funeral Mass for Vernon R. Weiler, 71, of Dickinson, will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dickinson, with Father Justin Waltz celebrating.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 11, 2023 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson, with Rosary and Vigil service taking place at 6:00 p.m.

Vern passed away Monday, December 4, 2023 at Sanford Medical Center in Bismarck.

Vernon Ralph Weiler was born on July 5, 1952 in Dickinson to Peter and Eva (Kuntz) Weiler. He attended grade school in Dickinson and graduated from Dickinson High School in 1970. During that time, he worked on a farm south of Dickinson. Following graduation, he spent time roofing in Rapid City, before returning home to Dickinson.

Vern began his carpet laying career with Dave Pavlicek and Dennis Pavlicek. He later taught Kerry Erhsman the carpet trade and worked with him until Kerry passed away. Vern retired, but occasionally helped his nephew, Derrick, with odd jobs.

Vernon married Vera Petty on May 3, 1985 in Epping, ND. Vern loved to attend Vera’s softball games to cheer on his honey.

Vern enjoyed visiting with his friends over a cold beverage and throwing horseshoes, and he liked going to the Southwest Speedway to watch the race cars. Vern was known for his great sense of humor and will be missed by many.

Vern is survived by his wife, Vera; daughter, Kristy (Tom) Simonieg; grandson, Bryton Petty; siblings, Archie (Jim) Roll, Geraldine (Ken) Grinsteiner, and Ken (Jeanette) Weiler; siblings-in-law, Ivan (Kathryn) Petty, Clyde Petty, and Ida Grotte; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Eva; parents-in-law, Glen and Ruby Petty; brother, Marvin; infant sister, Jeanette; sister-in-law, Kathy Greenwell; brother-in-law, Francis Roll; and great-niece, Celeste France.
