Victor passed away from complications from a stroke on Friday, August 25, 2023 in Garrison, ND.

Vic was born December 16, 1936 in Gorham, ND, the son of William and Pearl (Baranko) Anheluk. He attended high school at Model High. In January 1955, Vic enlisted in the U.S. Army. His early military days included seeing Germany and Paris. On May 12, 1962, he married Sharon Morrison at Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. Their marriage was blessed with three daughters, Krista, Kelly and Kerri.

Vic’s 26-year military service included two tours in Vietnam, along with he and his family traveling and living in many different parts of the United States.  In 1976, he had an opportunity to move back to North Dakota as an Army Recruiter and was grateful to once again be near his ND family and friends. Vic was honorably discharged as an E8 Master-Sergeant in February 1981. Though their military life was a wonderful journey and they cherished the life-long friends made through the years, he and Sharon looked forward to their next chapter.

Vic and Sharon made the decision to move from Mandan to Vic’s original family homestead in Fairfield, ND in 1987 and spent 18 wonderful years there. Vic’s Ukrainian heritage was an important part of his life, he and Sharon were active members of the St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Church and active within the Belfield/Fairfield communities. The most cherished memories during the “farm years’ were entertaining and spending time with his grandchildren Kyle and Kayla and always supporting them during their sporting events, school programs, birthdays, and graduations. During this time, Medora, ND had a special place in Dad’s heart, he spent 10 years as a maintenance worker there, it was his favorite job. Vic loved and enjoyed meeting all kinds of people from all over the world. His family always joked that no matter where Vic went, he always ran into someone that he knew, without fail.

Vic was extremely proud of the way he gave back to his community that included being a Mandan American Legion Post Commander, member of the West Plains REC, the Upper MO GNT of Sidney, MT and later served as a member of the board of Basin Electric, Bismarck ND.

In 2005, Vic and Sharon moved back to Mandan. Vic enjoyed bowling and was an avid card player and considered many of those he played with at the Moose and Eagles in Mandan as good friends; he also loved his New York Yankees, his Green Bay Packers, and the occasional trip to the casino.

On November 8th, 2022, Vic became a great Grandpa when Scarlett was born. He adored her and his face lit up every time he saw her. The feeling was mutual as Papa Vic got a smile every time from her.

Vic will be missed by everyone who loved him, his daughters, Krista of Bismarck; Kelly Leingang of Mandan and Kerri of Mandan; grandchildren Kyle and Kayla Leingang (Red Sweeney); great-granddaughter Scarlett; and a host of dear friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon; parents, William and Pearl Anheluk; sister Jeanette Fisher; son-in-law Paul Leingang; and his companion of 10 years, Julie Leingang.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Vic’s memory to:
