Celebration of Life for Walter "Wally" Dschaak, 67, of Marmarth, ND will be 11:00 am, Friday, April 10, 2026 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Baker, MT. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Marmarth.

Those not able to attend the Celebration of Life it will be livestreamed.

Visitation for Wally will be from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at Stevenson Funeral Home, one hour prior to his service on Friday.

Wally passed away, Thursday, April 2, 2026 at Billings Clinic.

Walter Patrick Dschaak was born March 5th 1959 in Buffalo Wyoming to Norman and Winnifred Lu (Stevenson) Dschaak. The third of six children, Wally spent his early years living in Edgerton, WY, Fort Lupton, CO and Fairview, MT. In 1969 the family moved to Malta, Idaho, where Wally began his academic adventures. While attending high school Wally participated in various activities including football and wrestling, ultimately graduating high school in 1977.

After completing high school Wally entered the workforce and never looked back. His interest in the automotive world pulled him to restoring cars with his uncle and Aunt in California, it also included circle track racing on the weekends. Wally then transitioned to working in Geo-Thermal drilling in the steam fields of California and Neveda for a short stint before moving to Arnegard, ND in 1978. Wally's relocation to ND coupled with his experience in Geo-Thermal drilling placed him in a prime position to begin working in the oil and gas industry of the Williston Basin. Wally worked for various companies in various roles before meeting and marrying Sara Forsman, they raised 3 children, Alex, Cassandra, and Kisa, before parting ways.

In 1994, Wally met Hailey Perry they were married in the winter of 1996 adding two more children to their family Erick and Garett. Wally continued to work for drilling contractors in both the oil and gas industry as well as the nuclear energy field for many years, accruing a knowledge and an experience base that impressed veterans of industry. He was a volunteer for Marmarth Fire Department for 30 years. Wally's work ethic and drive was often unmatched, and always favorably viewed. Wally never met a stranger, to him they were simply friends he hadn't met yet and his empathy and interpersonal skills were legendary. In later years, Wally worked as a heavy equipment operator, traveling across MT and Wy, making new friends and building critical infrastructures. Wally was a mechanical subject matter expert that was always happy to lend a hand to anyone in need.

Wally is survived by his wife Hailey; his children, Alex, Cassandra, Kisa, Erick, Garett; grandchildren; Brooklyn, Declan Linseth, JJ Demeritt, Axton Hartse, Kayden Dschaak; brothers, Mike, Jeff, Harry; sister, Luann.

He will be deeply missed by his many friends and his family. Wally is proceeded in death by his parents, Norman and Winnifred; brother, Sam.
